proMat 2013 includes an extensive educational component in addition to the trade show. Educational events include three keynote presentations, six educa-
tional tracks, and more than 100 expert-led seminars held right on the show floor
during the first three days of the exhibition.
All three keynote presentations will offer a look into the future of business and tech-
nology. On Monday, Jan. 21, from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., Dr. Henrik I. Christensen, KUKA
Chair of Robotics and director of robotics at the Georgia Institute of Technology, will talk
about a new wave of robotics that is revolutionizing manufacturing and distribution, and
how it will help to advance future economic growth.
On Tuesday, Jan. 22, from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., Steve Forbes (right), chairman and edi-
tor-in-chief of Forbes Media, will assess the impact of the U.S. president and his adminis-
tration on the economy. Known for his ability to provide economic and political insights
on the most debated issues of the day, Forbes will also offer advice for achieving business
success in difficult times.
The future of material handling, logistics, and supply chain management will be the
subject of a panel on Wednesday, Jan. 23, from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Futurist Edie Weiner
will set the stage for four industry leaders to share their views on how material handling
and logistics will support the supply chain in the future. The lineup includes George Prest,
CEO, Material Handling Industry of America (MHIA); Rick Blasgen, president and CEO,
Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP); Michael J. Mikitka, CEO,
Warehousing Education and Research Council (WERC); and Liz Richards, executive vice
president, Material Handling Equipment Distributors Association (MHEDA).
The keynotes will serve as the gateway to some 100 expert-led sessions on a host of
material handling and logistics topics. In these sessions, ProMat exhibitors will discuss
best practices and cost-saving ideas in such areas as data capture and information man-
agement, warehousing and DC operations, and supply chain visibility, to name just a few.
Six educational tracks will cover such topics as unit-level and product traceability;
improving ROI with automated identification technology; and engineered solutions for
manual material handling jobs, among others. Industry associations sponsoring these
presentations include the Association for Automatic Identification and Mobility (AIM), the
Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals, the National Institute for
Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), and the Ergonomic Assist Systems and
Equipment Council (EASE).
ProMat’s educational offerings also include “The Hub,” an interactive resource center. At
The Hub, which will be located in the center of the show floor, visitors will find the following:
▪ MHI Informational Center with information about the show sponsor and its resources
and services;
A special “bonus” for attendees: The Automate Show and Conference, sponsored by the
Association for Advancing Automation, is once again collocated with ProMat in 2013. The
keynote addresses are co-presented by ProMat and Automate.
