ll good things must come to an end, and ProMat
2019 is no exception. Every day at 5 p.m. ( 3 p.m.
on Thursday), ProMat will close its doors for the evening.
What to do then? Here’s an arbitrary selection of special
events taking place in and around the ProMat show’s venue
in early April:
; The renowned Broadway musical “Hamilton” is playing
at The PrivateBank Theatre. Tickets are available through
Ticketmaster and other resellers for the 7: 30 p.m. shows on
April 9 and 10. For Hamilton fans, Chicago will host the world
premiere of “Hamilton: The Exhibition” on April 6. Open daily
at Northerly Island Park through July 1, the exhibit offers a
deeper look into the life and times of Alexander Hamilton.
The exhibition will feature interactive scenography, light-
ing, sound, multimedia, and music that will guide visitors
through Hamilton’s life, starting from his childhood in St.
Croix, Virgin Islands, to his death in Weehawken, N.J.
; If you’re a baseball fan, the National League Chicago Cubs
will host their home opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates on
Monday, April 8, although it will be a day game. The two
teams will also play Wednesday, April 10, and Thursday,
April 11, at 7:05 p.m. If you’re an American League fan, the
Chicago White Sox will welcome the Tampa Bay Rays for
a three-game series Monday, April 8, through Wednesday,
April 10.
; Watch the National Basketball Association (NBA) Chicago
Bulls hit the court at the United Center to play the New York
Knicks in a regular season game on Tuesday, April 9, at 7 p.m.
; Chicago’s renowned improvisational theater troupe will
present “The Best of Second City,” an evening featuring some
of the best sketches and songs from its 52-year history. The 8
p.m. performance on Monday, April 8, will take place at The
Second City Mainstage Theater, located at 1616 N. Wells St.
; Enjoy the city’s legendary architecture from the water
with Chicago’s Original Architecture Tour. Organized by
Wendella Tours & Cruises, the 75-minute tour is led by a
trained architectural guide, who will take you on a journey
through more than 130 years of the city’s innovations in
design and style.
; Travel back to India in 1648 and follow two hapless Taj
Mahal imperial guards on their journey to find the true
meaning of beauty, in the play “Guards at the Taj” at the
Steppenwolf Theatre. Tickets are available for the 7: 30 p.m.
shows on Tuesday, April 9, and Wednesday, April 10.
; “360 Chicago,” formerly known as the John Hancock
Observatory, offers visitors a breathtaking 360-degree view
of the city’s skyline and Lake Michigan. The observation deck
is also the home of “Tilt,” an enclosed moving platform that
provides visitors with a unique downward-facing view from
1,000 feet. 360 Chicago is open every day until 11 p.m.
; The Goodman Theatre is featuring the Broadway pro-
duction “Sweat,” written by Pulitzer Prize-winning American
playwright Lynn Nottage. This play tells the story of a group
of friends from a Rust Belt town who suddenly find them-
selves pitted against one another when the factory they
work for announces layoffs. Performances are Tuesday, April
9, and Wednesday, April 10.
