A
2015 is no exception. Every day at 5 p.m. ( 3 p.m. on
Thursday), ProMat will close its doors for the evening. What to
do then? Here’s an arbitrary selection of special events taking
place in and around the ProMat show’s venue in late March:
; The Chicago Bulls National Basketball Association (NBA)
team will hit the court to play the Charlotte Hornets at the
United Center on Monday, March 23, and the New York Knicks
on Saturday, March 28.
; The Chicago Blackhawks, the city’s National Hockey League
(NHL) affiliate, will take on the Columbus Blue Jackets on
Friday, March 27, at the United Center.
; Chicago’s renowned improvisational theater troupe, The
Second City, is performing its 103rd revue, “Panic on Cloud 9,”
a collection of sketches that laugh at everything from Ebola to
modern parenting to the lies of advertising and the advertising
of our own lies. Every day except Tuesday.
; To celebrate its 10th anniversary, Millennium Park will
feature a special installment of large-scale sculpted portraits
(including one that measures 38 feet tall) by world-renowned
artist Jaume Plensa.
; Gardening enthusiasts can delight in two botanical offerings: the Chicago Flower & Garden Show through March 22
at Navy Pier and Macy’s Flower Show, starting March 22, at
Macy’s on State Street.
; The Chicago Art Institute’s current exhibition “Shatter
Rupture Break” explores how the ideas of fragmentation and
rupture became central conceptual and visual themes in art
during the modern age.
; “The Book of Mormon,” winner of nine Tony Awards,
including Best Musical, returns to Chicago’s Bank of America
Theatre. Every day except Monday.
; The Chicago Symphony Orchestra will perform works
by Brahms, Mozart, and contemporary American composer
Michael Ippolito on Thursday, March 26.
; An exhibit at the National Veteran Arts Museum, “100 Faces
of War Experience: Portraits and Words of Americans Who
Served in Iraq and Afghanistan,” seeks to represent the perspectives of a cross-section of Americans who experienced the
wars in these two countries. Every day except Monday.
