CVC Thermoset Specialties Introduces Meth-
acrylate-functional RLPs for Acrylic Coatings
CVC Thermoset Specialties, an Emerald
Performance Materials company, offers
Hypro 1300X33LC and Hypro 1300X43LC
VTBNX. The two new methacrylate-func-tional reactive liquid polymers (RLPs) are a
part of the company’s Hypro product line of
100% solids, functional polybutadiene and
acrylonitrile-butadiene co-polymers. These
liquid rubbers have carboxyl, hydroxyl, epoxy, glycidyl ester, methacrylate and amine
terminal groups, which will cross-link into
thermoset polymer systems and substantially enhance key mechanical properties in the
end-use applications.
Hypro 1300X33LC and Hypro
1300X43LC VTBNX are methacrylate
terminated co-polymers of butadiene and
acrylonitrile. They feature an innovative
breakthrough with superior viscosity stability and lighter color than the previous
generation of Hypro VTBNXs, according
to the company. This innovation extends
the shelf-life and processing window and
expands the use to applications where
color is important.
Gelest Expands Line of
Reactive Silicone Fluids
and Materials
Gelest, Inc. has extended its line of reactive
silicone fluids and materials, this time with
the addition of new silicone macromers,
including monofunctional and heterobi-
functional monodisperse reactive fluids.
Gelest’s broad range of reactive silicone
fluids and materials find wide application
in adhesives, binders, ceramic coatings, di-
electric coatings, encapsulants, gels, mem-
branes, optical coatings, photolithography,
polymer synthesis and sealants.
Ross Offers R&D and
Pilot-Scale Mixers
Ross manufactures a wide range of bench-
top mixers for R&D and pilot-scale re-
quirements, with many selections for
multi-viscosity processing, dry solid-solid
blending, powder wet-out, inline (con-
tinuous) mixing, agitated vacuum drying,
homogenization, emulsification and particle size reduction/wet milling. Ranging
from 1-quart to 10-gallon capacities,
several of these laboratory mixers ship
from stock and are being offered for trial/
rental as well as free consignment.
Available in both sanitary and non-sanitary configurations, all R&D and
pilot-scale Ross mixers are completely
scalable for seamless transition to full-scale production. These include ribbon
blenders, vertical blenders, tumble blenders, static mixers, high speed dispersers,
high shear and ultra-high shear (rotor/
stator) mixers, powder induction systems,
multi-shaft mixers, double planetary mixers and planetary dispersers.
Dow Unveils Fortegra
Toughening Technology
Dow Chemical has expanded its Fortegra
line of toughening technology designed
to help improve the toughness of epoxy
systems for electrical laminates, as well as
structural adhesives, composites, castings
and coatings. The new addition, Fortegra
351, increases the reliability and durability
of electrical laminates, helping them with-
stand high mechanical stresses during the
drilling process.
Huber Announces Affiliation
With Pinfa-NA
Huber Engineered Materials, a division of
J.M. Huber Corporation, announced its
participation in Pinfa-NA (Phosphorus,
Inorganic and Nitrogen Flame Retardants
Association-North America). Based in
Califon, NJ, Pinfa-NA was formed by
leaders in the flame retardant industry
that focus on non-halogen solutions and
materials. Pinfa-NA is a sister organiza-
tion of Pinfa, a sector group of Cefic (The
European Chemical Industry Council).
Excelitas Technologies
Introduces New UV LED
Light Module
Excelitas Technologies announced the
launch of CurX, the company’s first
UV LED solution for the printing and
curing industry. CurX is well suited for
demanding applications such as digital ink printing, screen printing, flexo
printing, offset printing, and the curing of coatings, adhesives, glues, and
varnishes.
Sartomer Introduces
CN9062 Dual-Cure
Oligomer
Sartomer USA, LLC, now offers CN9062,
a liquid high-functionality oligomer that
brings significant scratch resistance to
demanding coatings applications. This
oligomer imparts excellent hardness to
protective coatings for automotive surfaces, plastic substrates and scratch-sen-sitive electronic devices.
The unique composition of CN9062
provides formulators with multiple benefits and application flexibility. It imparts
durability to coatings for wood, metal,
plastics and glass, as well as a variety of
inks ranging from flexo to inkjet.
TAICROS Crosslinking
Additive Gives Chemical
Resistance to Coatings
Evonik Industries is now bringing on
to the market the successful TAICROS
crosslinking booster. As an additive in
UV-curable clear coatings, TAICROS
ensures chemical resistance and improved mechanical properties. Market
demand is growing for eco-friendly
alternatives to conventional solvent-borne coatings; for this reason, UV-curable clear coatings are becoming
increasingly important. Their weak
point so far has been a less than optimal resistance to chemical attack;
TAICROS, however, shows good results in overcoming this problem.
Moreover, the chemical structure of
the additive improves the mechanical
properties, particularly for intercoat
adhesion in multicoat structures. CW
