Datacolor Announces PAINT
v. 2.0
Datacolor has launched Datacolor
PAINT version 2.0, offering signifi-
cant enhancements to its flagship color
management software for retailers in
the paint industry. Boasting an all-new
user interface, the software delivers fast
and easy color search, laboratory grade
matching and seamless connection to
dispensers, improving overall productiv-
ity for customers.
For small to medium size retail stores,
Datacolor PAINT v. 2.0 is designed to
“improve the total cost of ownership by
enabling a single computer to affordably
manage both the paint matching sys-
tem and the dispenser.” Additionally, for
large-volume paint operations, the soft-
ware supports connection to multiple dis-
pensers enabling increased flexibility and
productivity.
The upgrade also includes a new bar-code scanning feature that prevents mis-tints by matching UPC codes to ensure
the correct base is selected prior to dispensing. This quality control feature limits waste, improving the overall efficiency
and user experience.

Union Process Produces S1
Lab Attritor with Tungsten
Carbide-Lined Tank
Union Process, Inc. has manufactured a
special edition S1 Laboratory Attritor
for a research facility. The application
required that the mill be designed with
a shaft seal for grinding under inert gas.
The specially designed mill includes a
temperature probe to measure the tem-
perature in the grinding chamber. The
customer required a tungsten carbide-
faced tank with tungsten carbide-sleeved
agitator arms for this specific application.
The mill was equipped with a five
horsepower variable frequency drive to
allow for the variance of the shaft RPMs
for experimental purposes. The mill also
includes a bar grid and ball valve so one
can discharge the slurry while leaving the
media behind. Special discharge vessels
are available in case one needs to discharge the slurry under inert atmosphere.
BYK Launches New
Additive BYK-1640
BYK Additives & Instruments is launching a new additives on the market. BYK-
1640 is a polymer-based, VOC- and
silicone-free defoamer for aqueous systems and is also suitable for some applications that come into direct contact with
food.
Mineral-oil-based defoamers are
widely used – mainly in applications in
which price is a key criterion. Negative
side effects such as separation tendency,
odor, environmental aspects and the often
lacking approvals for direct food contact
mean that the market is looking for affordable alternatives.
According to the company, BYK-1640
is just such an alternative. The additive
is mineral-oil- and emission-free, neutral
in odor, silicone-free, and easy to incorporate. It provides high versatility that
makes it widely applicable: in architectural, protective, can and paper coatings as well as in adhesives, construction
chemicals and printing inks.
BYK said that its BYK-1640 is not
only effective at low dosage but an overall
very economic defoamer with excellent
performance that BYK will be presenting
at this year’s ECS alongside other, additives for optimized processes.
