Head in the clouds: LeanLogistics, a provider of software-as-a-service (SaaS) transportation technology and supply chain solutions, has released On-Demand TMS version
10. 2.0, a series of enhancements to the company’s flagship transportation management
system for shippers, carriers, 3PLs, suppliers, and transportation trading partners.
Because of the single-instance, multi-tenant nature of SaaS technology, the new
version is immediately and simultaneously available to all users in the LeanLogistics
Transportation Network (cloud).
Key features of the new release include greater flexibility in reporting, language
translation and globalization, and updated LTL rate uploads. (LeanLogistics, www.lean-logistics.com)

Doubling up: Con-way Truckload, a full truckload
carrier and subsidiary of Con-way Inc., now offers
DoubleStack—an advanced cargo loading and
capacity management system that allows shippers to more fully and efficiently utilize space in
trailers while securing freight more effectively.
The racking system allows for loading of cargoes
on two separate adjustable levels throughout the
length of the trailer, accommodating shipments of
different dimensions while more fully utilizing the
trailer. In addition, custom-designed strapping
mechanisms unique to the DoubleStack system
enable shipments to be securely tied down to prevent movement during transit and provide added
protection against damage.
Con-way Truckload’s DoubleStack trailers
feature thick aluminum tracks attached to supporting vertical posts every 16 inches along the
trailer walls, with adjustable bars—or cross
beams—that clamp securely into each track.
The metal cross beams are height-adjustable
and can be set in a variety of horizontal track
positions to accommodate freight pallets of different sizes, while maximizing the stability of
loaded freight at any point in the trailer. The
DoubleStack system is suitable for a wide variety of customer goods, including fragile products that must be segregated and traditionally
cannot be double-stacked, or pallets with products of varying height dimensions and stability.
Con-way has initially converted 100 of its
standard 53-foot truckload trailers to the
DoubleStack system, with additional unit conversions planned for later this year. (Con-way

Small but powerful: SICK, a manufacturer of
sensors, safety systems, and machine vision
and automatic identification products for factory
and logistics automation, has launched a line of
miniature bar-code scanners. Barely larger than
a USB plug, the CLV500 Series units can easily
be installed where space is extremely limited.
The ultra-compact bar-code scanners boast
excellent decoding performance, with a large
depth of field that allows for flexibility in code
size and target placement. They are suitable for
applications in the OEM and machine builder
marketplace, such as packaging systems, circuit
board processing, and robotic inspection. Units
in this series also offer fast and easy commissioning using an online tool—no new software
is necessary. (SICK, www.sickusa.com)
