Mobile robot: Conveyco Technologies’ new
flow-rack autonomous mobile robot (AMR)
replenisher, the Stacker-Bot, was designed to
eliminate labor and boost accuracy and efficiency without the need for breaks or human
supervision.
The Stacker-Bot can store and retrieve
inventory from the floor, a shelf, or a conveyor level, picking up to five SKUs (
stock-keeping units) in a single trip. The robot automatically picks a case or tote, scans the bar
code, and stores it in any of its five on-board
shelves. It then uses its RCS (robot control
system) and communicates to the WMS/WCS
host software system.
Once the Stacker-Bot has retrieved the
desired totes or cartons, it is directed via the
WMS/WES software host to the exact locations where the items are to be placed. The
specific rack, shelf level, and shelf location for
each of the five SKUs is communicated to the
Stacker-Bot. The robot always travels via the
shortest path to its put-away location.
Upon receiving its instructions, the Stacker-Bot uses its two-dimensional camera technology to find its first location. It verifies its
position by scanning the bar code on the rack
and shelf level. Then, it places the tote or case
in the proper SKU location in the back of the
flow rack.
The Stacker-Bot travels to its next location and repeats this process until its load is
depleted. It then goes back to the re-loading
station to pick up more SKUs and begin the
process all over again. Each Stacker-Bot comes
equipped with multiple and redundant safety
protections, including a laser obstacle-avoid-ance system. (Conveyco Technologies, www.

Lithium-ion batteries: Toyota Material
Handling U.S.A. Inc. has announced the
approval of a new lineup of lithium-ion batteries for use in its three- and four-wheel
electric sit-down lift truck models. According
to the company, this introduction makes
Toyota the first manufacturer in the industry
to obtain UL-E and UL-EE certification for the
combination of lift truck and lithium-ion batteries on a sit-down counterbalanced forklift.
The company’s engineers worked directly
with Underwriters Laboratory (UL), a global
safety-certification organization, to test and
certify the use of four new Navitas lithium-ion
batteries in Toyota forklifts. This development
provides a solution for customers requiring
UL-E- or UL-EE-rated forklifts who would also
like to benefit from the use of lithium-ion
batteries, the company says. (Toyota Material

Safety vest: Elokon, a provider of safety technology, has introduced its “Smart
Safety Vest” for pedestrians who work around lift trucks.
Available in bright yellow for enhanced visibility, the Smart Safety Vest works
with the company’s ELOshield proximity-detection system, which uses UWB (
ultra-wide band) wireless technology to prevent vehicle-pedestrian (and vehicle-vehicle)
collisions. A transponder in the vest alerts both the pedestrian and the forklift driver
if they get too close. As a failsafe, the system sends multiple warnings—by sight
(long-range LED lights), sound (acoustic alarm), and feel (vibration alarm), the company says. (Elokon, www.elokon.com)
