Workshops I and II
will be led by Prof. Long
Lin, head of the Department of Color Science at
The University of Leeds
(UK), director of DP Centre of Industrial Collaboration at Leeds, a
chartered colorist and
chemist, fellow of the Institute of Paper, Printing
& Publishing, the Technology of Surface Coating and the Royal Society
of Chemistry.
Workshops I and II
will focus on Analysis and
Optimization of Coating
/Ink Formulations. Significant profit based on low
labor cost, low margin
and mass production is
quickly becoming a thing
of the past. In a world that
is increasingly seeking better quality and higher efficiency, it pays
to be equipped with, as fully as possible, the knowledge of relevant underpinning scientific principles and latest technological
developments.
The Technical Workshops, to be delivered by Prof. Long Lin,
are designed to provide the delegates with a boost on the fundamental principles that underpin techniques for the optimization
of coatings/ink formulations and for the characterization and
analysis of coatings/inks. The Workshops will be delivered in a
highly interactive style and there will be opportunities for delegates to discuss their technical problems with Prof. Lin, who has
many years of practical experience in the development of novel
coatings and inks for a large number of coatings and inks manufacturers worldwide.
The theme of Workshop I is, “Optimization of Coatings/Ink
Properties through Process Improvement,” and will be held
Nov. 28 from 12:30-3: 30 p.m. Prof. Lin will discus physical
chemical interactions between coatings/ink components; the
importance of dispersion of coatings/ink components; how to
maximize the efficiency of dispersion operation; how to prepare coatings/ink formulations for efficient dispersion; how to
assess the quality of coatings/ink formulations; and how to optimize coatings/ink formulations.
The theme of Workshop II is, “Analysis and Characterization
of Coatings & Inks,” and will be held Nov. 29 from 9: 30 a.m. -
12: 30 p.m. Prof. Lin will discuss properties of coatings and
inks—physical chemical parameters and performance properties;
measurement of coatings/ink properties—principles and tech-
nologies; analysis and interpretation of the results of character-
izations and Measure-
ments—principles and
techniques; relationships
between physical chemi-
cal parameters and coat-
ings/ink properties; and
optimization of coat-
ings/ink properties.
Workshop III: Water-
borne Polymers and
Coatings will be led by
Dr. Jamil Baghdachi, a
professor of polymers
and coatings and the di-
rector of Coatings Re-
search Institute at the
Eastern Michigan Univer-
sity. The objective of this
tutorial is to review and
discuss the most recent
advances in waterborne
polymers and coating
technologies. All aspects
of the technology includ-
ing applied science and
technology, raw materi-
als, coatings, challenges, paths to problem resolution and for-
mulation will be discussed. In addition, the properties of
various waterborne polymers and coatings as well as their se-
lection for architectural, general industrial, automotive/aero-
space application will be presented.
Workshop III will take place on Nov. 29 from 12: 30 – 3: 30
p.m. Prof. Baghdachi will discuss waterborne polymers; raw materials and various products formulations; challenges and opportunities; coating properties and selection; and opportunities
in new materials development.
Located in the Pearl River Delta Region (PRD), Guangzhou is the capital city of the
Guangdong Province and is also the third largest city in China. It is a special economic development zone and an important trading point. Since 1980s, the region has been favoured by worldwide manufacturers to set up their production
bases in the region, making Guangdong the ‘Factory of the World’. CHINA-
COAT2012 will once again be staged in this energetic industrial zone and will
serve as an effective platform for those who are seeking to grow their business.
New Tech Corner
This two-day event will feature informal presentations on case
studies, novel technology, insights and marketing strategies, pro-
viding an ideal interactive platform for both speakers and visitors
to share their experiences and expertise together. Themes this
year include:
• Coatings for iPad, Mobile & Laptop;
CHINACOAT’s New Tech Corner will be held in Hall 11.2,
Meeting Zone 11.2M25-34.
No admission fees are required. All visitors are welcome to
attend.
