Union Process Introduces S-400 Attritor
Union Process, Inc. has built an S-400
batch, wet-grinding Attritor for a customer
in the roofing industry. The S-400 represents the largest batch Attritor ever built by
the 66-year-old company. Batch Attritors
have the advantage of grinding material up
to ten times faster than traditional ball
mills. They are simple to operate, energy efficient and do not require premixing. This
Attritor has a new frame design utilizing a
pivoting drive cantilever, which allows for
easy removal of the agitator shaft for maintenance and cleaning. The Attritor features
a 400 HP TEFC inverter duty motor with a
heavy-duty variable frequency drive controller. The large tank accommodates
12,000 lbs. of through-hardened carbon
steel grinding media.
Ross Tumble Blenders now
available
Charles Ross & Son Co. has introduced
fully equipped Ross V-Cone and Double
Cone Tumble Blenders that are now avail-
able from stock or with fast delivery times.
Used for routine blending of free-flowing
solids, as well as batching precise blends
containing minor ingredients, these Tum-
ble Blenders are robustly designed to han-
dle densities up to 125 lbs./cu.ft. An
intensifier bar is supplied for dispersing
tough agglomerates that may be present in
the batch. The stainless steel 316 product
contact parts on stock units are polished to
240 grit or mirror finish for easy cleaning.
The smooth internals also help facilitate a
fast and complete product discharge
through the blender’s butterfly valve. Stan-
dard models range from 0.25 to 100 cu.ft.
and can be supplied with optional features
such as vacuum capability, GMP design,
liquid spray bar, heating/cooling jacket and
explosion-proof motor. Heavy-duty mod-
els rated for bulk densities up to 200
lbs./cu.ft. are also available. Ross Tumble
Blenders are offered with a variety of pre-
wired control options, from simple motor
starters and variable frequency drives to so-
phisticated operator stations.
BASF unveils new solutions for
thermoplastic polyurethanes
BASF showcased its newest thermoplastic
polyurethanes at the 10th Annual Thermoplastic Elastomers Topical Conference
(TPE TopCon 2012) Sept. 10 to 12, at the
Hilton Akron Fairlawn in Akron, Ohio.
The company’s Elastollan TPU portfolio –
a versatile, high performance thermoplastic polyurethane offers all-around security
for wire and cable applications in the
aerospace, automotive and industrial markets. BASF also provided two interactive
presentations: “Thermoplastic
polyurethane solutions for improved heat
performance” and “Thermoplastic
polyurethane solutions for low smoke
zero halogen (LSZH) flame retardant
cable applications.” Technology and product highlights at BASF’s TPU booth will
included: Elastollan 1185A10HFFR, a
new low smoke, halogen-free flame retardant TPU for high performance wire and
cable applications; and Elastollan
785A10HPM, a new, high temperature
TPU for continuous use at 150°C in automotive and wire and cable applications.
Dow Corning offers 3055 resin
for low VOC polysiloxane
coatings
With Dow Corning 3055 Resin, manufac-
turers of high-performance paints and coat-
ings can formulate low-VOC,
next-generation polysiloxane coatings with
urethane, epoxy, polyester, alkyd, amine and
acrylic systems utilizing amine functionality,
according to the company. Unlike moisture-
cured polysiloxanes, Dow Corning 3055
Resin does not require titanate/tin catalysts
or ambient moisture to cure. As a result,
Dow Corning 3055 Resin does not con-
tribute to volatile by-products that can cause
film stress and adhesion loss. Polysiloxane
hybrid coatings formulated with The com-
pany reports that Dow Corning 3055 Resin
have exhibited long-term flexibility and im-
proved chemical, thermal, UV, corrosion and
moisture resistance compared to epoxy and
two-component polyurethane systems. Most
notably, adding Dow Corning 3055 Resin
improves the chemical resistance and flexibility of polysiloxane coatings beyond that
of a traditional epoxy topcoat. Compared to
two-component polyurethane coatings,
polysiloxane coatings with Dow Corning
3055 Resin have similar physical properties
- but with better corrosion resistance.
Omnova’s Hydro Pliolite WL
acrylic binder for sealers
Omnova Solutions recently unveiled
Hydro Pliolite WL modified acrylate
copolymer for wet-look concrete sealers.
Based on Omnova’s proprietary EBS
(emulsified binding system) technology,
this water-based acrylic binder can be formulated into a wet-look concrete sealer
with a superior appearance and performance versus traditional latex-based sealers.
Coatings formulated with Hydro Pliolite
WL provide better adhesion and penetration to concrete surfaces and deliver a true
“wet look” similar in appearance to solvent-based sealers, according to the company. The new resin has excellent blush
resistance and is non-yellowing.
Evonik launches Tego Disperse
757 W dispersant for high
performance waterborne
coatings
Evonik has introduced Tego Disperse 757
W, designed for premium pigment con-
centrates used in all waterborne industrial
coatings but particularly where durability
and corrosion protection are important.
Additionally, Tego Disperse 757 W can be
utilized in wood and architectural coat-
ings where there is an emphasis on hu-
midity, moisture, and weathering
resistance. Tego Disperse 757 W enables
the production of highly pigmented mill
bases. Even at low additive levels, disper-
sion properties such as stability and color
strength are enhanced which can lead to
cost savings and less influence on coatings
properties the company said. CW
