New labor look: Next View Software has introduced its On-Demand Labor
Management and Productivity Solution (LMS). This subscription-based offering allows
clients to realize the savings associated with labor management systems more quickly
and inexpensively than they could with traditional hardware/software license offerings.
Next View’s On-Demand LMS supports a wide variety of labor standards (
engineered labor standards, MOST, MTM, historical averages, and more) as well as complete, configurable drill-down dashboards. The company supports its clients further
with labor planning, time and attendance integration, incentive reporting, and more.

Cool idea: Ceiling-space-challenged operations, such as many distribution and manufacturing facilities, need cooling air movement
over large areas, but may not have the overhead space to accommodate 8- to 24-foot
ceiling-mounted fans. The new Pivot 180 from
Big Ass Fans responds to this need because it
is designed to be installed on a column or
other vertical structure. In addition, Pivot 180’s
oscillating function allows the air generated to
radiate 100 feet outward, enveloping a 180-
degree arc from side to side—a coverage area
of 12,000 square feet. If more concentrated
air movement is required, the oscillating function can be switched off easily and the fan
aimed in one direction. For even more control,
the fan can easily be pivoted up or down for
optimal airflow.
Unlike typical industrial floor or barrel fans
that are noisy and have electrical cords that can
present tripping hazards, Pivot 180 delivers
maximum airflow and quiet operation while
remaining up and out of the way. The Pivot
180 is built with industrial strength components that withstand the harshest environments. Its lightweight, low-profile cage provides
additional protection for both the fan and workers. (Big Ass Fans, www.bigassfans.com)
Well connected: Westfalia Technologies is
launching Savanna.NET Version 2. 2. This latest
version of the company’s Savanna warehouse
management software (WMS) features a standard interface that allows the software to talk with
any enterprise resource planning (ERP) system;
a faster, more efficient storage locator algorithm;
and visible changes to the client user screens to
make the client interface more user friendly.
The software’s improved standard host interface controls the items, orders, customers, and
inventory segments of the WMS, and provides
standard integration of these segments to any
ERP system (SAP, Oracle, Navision, Ross, etc.).
The standardization of this interface provides for
more rapid WMS installation, the company says.
Another enhancement to Savanna 2. 2 is the
refinement of the find-storage-location algorithm. Although this feature is not necessarily
visible to a user, the increased speed and efficiency of storing and retrieving pallets/totes
becomes apparent in the regular reporting of
inventory and order processing activity.
Significant improvements have also been
made to the WMS user screens, which
Westfalia calls the WMS Client. Savanna 2. 2
users are able to rename and reorganize
columns, which allows them to sort the inventory movement information in whatever manner they prefer. (Westfalia Technologies Inc.,
