All together now
NEED A BETTER SENSE OF HOW YOUR OPERATION FITS INTO
the overall supply chain? Then consider enrolling in the University of
Tennessee’s Integrated Supply Chain Management Program. The
program consists of a series of courses designed to give attendees a
better understanding of the interrelationships among areas like
demand planning, customer relationship management, and logistics.
Course offerings include “Supply Chain Management Strategy,”
“Demand Management in the Supply Chain,” “Logistics and
Operations in the Supply Chain,” “The Lean Enterprise and the
Supply Chain,” “Supply Chain Resource Management,” “Integrative
Supply Chain Experience,” “Vested Outsourcing,” and “
Performance-Based Logistics.” Students who complete six courses and “pass” all six
exams will earn a Supply Chain Management Certificate.
Each course runs for two and a half days over three non-consecu-tive weeks and is taught by University of Tennessee faculty members.
Upcoming classes include “Logistics and Operations in the Supply
Chain” on Aug. 22–24 and “The Lean Enterprise and the Supply
Chain” on Aug. 24–26 at the university’s campus in Knoxville, Tenn.

We’ve all debated whether it’s worth the time and expense to travel to a
conference. Will we get enough out of it to justify the trip? Or will we just
end up dozing off in a dim conference room while the work piles up back
at the office?
The Warehousing Education and Research Council (WERC) wants to ease
your mind on that count. The group is offering attendees of the upcoming
WERC Annual Conference a money-back guarantee. If the conference
does not deliver a quality educational and networking event, WERC says, it
will refund your money or give you a credit certificate toward any future
WERC national educational program.
Attendees at this year’s conference, which takes place May 15–18 in
Orlando, Fla., will be able choose from 73 presentations and roundtable discussions. Speakers will probe such topics as whether cross-docking is still
beneficial to the customer, the hidden costs in equipment purchases, and
the 50 most widely used DC performance metrics.
Conference-goers can also sign up to tour several area facilities, including
Walt Disney Resorts’ distribution facility, the CHEP pallet innovation center,
and Southern Wine and Spirits of America’s 1. 8 million-case-capacity DC.
The conference will also feature the Warehousing Industry Resources
Event (WIRE), which will include exhibits and product demonstrations by
approximately 80 suppliers and service providers.
