Storage system: The SpeedCell storage system is a new warehouse storage system
that transforms traditional storage bays into high-density storage modules, helping
companies make better use of previously underutilized space. The modules allow
quick and easy access to every item inside.
The system consists of an array of mobile vertical shelving columns that slide sideways to reveal even more columns behind them. Each column is made from antistatic, flame-retardant technical textiles. The system can be configured to fit almost
any size product in a multitude of arrangements. (SpeedCell, www.speedcell.net)
Rugged computers: Intermec Inc.’s CK3
Next Generation Series of rugged mobile
computers consists of two models – the
CK3X and the CK3R. The CK3X is
designed for warehouse operations, while the CK3R is designed
for light industrial and retail
environments.
The CK3X can perform stan-dard-range or near-/far-range
scanning of one- and two-dimensional bar codes,
including poor quality or damaged ones. It can also support
omnidirectional scanning,
which uses mirrors and other
reflective devices to transform
one laser line into many, all at
different angles. (This makes
scanning easier and faster.)
The computer also possesses a
high level of motion tolerance.
The CK3X is a rugged device, designed to
withstand multiple 5-foot ( 1.5-meter) drops
to concrete and to work in all operating temperatures. Its battery can last more than a full
shift.
Intermec designed the CK3X so that users
of Intermec’s existing CK3B mobile computer
could easily migrate to it. For example, the
CK3X has the same form and design as the
CK3B and supports CK3B’s legacy applications and accessories. This means that current
customers do not have to invest in new chargers, docking stations, or scan handles when
they upgrade to the CK3X.
Both the CK3X and the CK3R come with
the latest Microsoft Windows Embedded
Handheld operating system, making them
compatible with a wide range of software
applications, including warehouse management systems and other tools developed by
the Intermec PartnerNet Independent Service
Provider community. CK3X and CK3R also
comply with emerging industry standards
such as HTML5. (Intermec Technologies

Ventilated containers: Lewisbins+, a subsidiary of Orbis Corp., has added ventilated
containers to its Stack-N-Nest product line.
Made of high-density polyethylene, the new
containers are resistant to the damaging
effects of oil, most chemicals, solvents, water,
and steam.
The reusable containers stack when full and
nest when empty, offering maximum space
savings and utilization. They are FDA-approved for direct food contact. (Lewisbins+,
