Warehouse control system: W&H Systems
Inc. has launched its next-generation warehouse control system (WCS), named Shiraz. The
new system offers improved flexibility, increased
visibility and control of processes, and better
coordination of equipment control for higher
throughput, according to W&H Systems.
W&H Systems’ warehouse control system
orchestrates material and information flow to
order fulfillment technology and material
handling equipment. The WCS relieves the
customer’s host computer from managing a
real-time material handling automation interface. It also maximizes system throughput
and performance while utilizing the most efficient methods for pallet, case, and item routing. In addition, the system provides intelligent wave release, allowing companies to
group orders to make order fulfillment efficient and minimize bottlenecks.
The new WCS allows managers to monitor
equipment performance in real time and provides advanced diagnostic and reporting tools
for problem solving and trend analysis. As a
result, managers can quickly respond to
changes needed or alerts from high-speed
equipment. This facilitates troubleshooting
and keeps downtime to a minimum.
The system, which can be easily integrated
with a variety of equipment, can be run on
iPads and tablet PCs. (W&H Systems,

Tablet computer: The M9705 tablet from DAP Technologies is designed for enterprise customers who want the screen size and lightweight features of a consumer
tablet but also need a unit built to withstand extreme environments.
At just 1. 7 pounds and less than an inch thick, the tablet is designed for mobility in a variety of environments. These features, however, do not come at the
expense of rugged construction. The tablet is built to IP54 standards and is protected against water, dust, and four-foot drops to concrete.
The device, which features a 9.7-inch display, comes standard with the Android
4.0 operating system. (DAP Technologies, www.daptech.com)

X-ray compatible pallet: Packaging company Orbis Corp. has released a hygienic plastic
pallet that features a new X-ray compatibility
option.
The RackoCell 40- by 48-inch pallet can be
sent through an X-ray machine for inspection
prior to the load’s being shipped. This assures
the shipper that if any piece of the pallet has
broken off during handling, it will be detected before the pallet is sent to the customer.
This option is geared toward food and beverage companies that must meet stringent
food safety regulations.
The pallet is made from a nonporous plastic and features a flow-through deck. Both of
these features allow the pallet to be washed
and dried quickly for sanitation purposes.

2D scanner: Honeywell has released a
rugged two-dimensional (2D) area-imaging
device, Granit 191Xi. The 2D scanner is built
to withstand more than 5,000 tumble drops.
The Granit 191Xi was specifically designed
to accompany many of Honeywell’s currently
deployed forklift-mounted computers and
devices. (Honeywell, www.honeywell.com)
