CSCMP to honor Dr. John Gattorna with group’s
2018 Distinguished Service Award
Dr. John Gattorna, who has been instrumental in changing
the perception of logistics and supply chain management
from that of a tactically driven cost center to a strategic
differentiator, will receive the Council of Supply Chain
Management Professionals’ (CSCMP) 2018 Distinguished
Service Award on Oct. 1 at CSCMP’s annual Edge conference in Nashville, Tenn., the group said.
The award, one of the supply chain management industry’s highest honors, is given to an individual for significant
achievements in the profession. Presented annually, the
award was instituted in 1965 as a tribute to logistics pioneer
John Drury Sheahan.
In a statement, Annette K. Clayton, CEO and president
of Schneider Electric North America and the company’s
chief supply chain officer, said Gattorna has been “a pio-
neer in how to take supply chain from a cost function to
a business imperative. His body of work takes the supply
chain profession from the factory and distribution cen-
ter floors to the boardrooms as a strategic advantage for
companies.” Gattorna has “taught our companies how to
move from a ‘one-size-fits-
all’ supply chain to a tailored
and segmented approach
that is rooted in science and
the voice of the customer,”
Clayton said.
Gattorna is an author,
academic, and principal
of Gattorna Alignment, a
Sydney, Australia-based
advisory firm. Along with
researching, consulting, and
teaching, Gattorna travels
extensively to share his thinking with peers and business
associates.
Gattorna’s contributions also extend to a lifelong support of diabetes charities. In recent years, he has served as a
business and supply chain adviser to the “Life for a Child”
charity, which supplies medication to children with Type 1
diabetes in developing countries.
