High Capacity
Spiral
Conveyors
Ryson High Capacity Spirals are in
response to our customers’ need to
go higher and handle more weight.
They handle double the weight capacity
of our standard spirals and can run varied
load sizes at speeds up to 200 PFM.
The new WT Model comes in slat
widths of 30” and 36” and can provide
an elevation change of up to 50 feet
with only one drive.
These spirals can also be configured
to allow the loads to enter or exit the
spirals at intermediate elevations, ideal
for multi-level warehousing operations.

Power supply solution: Beckhoff Automation, a provider of advanced and open automation
solutions, has introduced the CU81xx uninterruptible power supply (UPS) series. With flexible
and cost-saving connection options including One Cable Technology (OCT) for uninterruptible power supply (UPS-OCT), the CU81xx series is suitable for a broad range of applications,
the company says. This includes connection to the entire range of Beckhoff components—in
particular, the Industrial, Panel, and Embedded PCs—as well as third-party products. In combination with the Beckhoff Industrial PCs (IPCs), particularly efficient cabling is possible with
just one cable for 24V supply and communication through UPS-OCT.
The uninterruptible power supply units in the CU81xx series have been designed for rear
panel and DIN rail mounting. At present, one capacitive and two battery-assisted versions are
available:
b CU8110-0120: a capacitive UPS (0.9 Wh) with a maximum power output of 120W;
b CU8130-0120: a battery-backed UPS ( 15 Wh) with a maximum power output of 120W;
and
b CU8130-0240: a battery-backed UPS ( 30 Wh) with a maximum power output of 240W.
In the battery-backed versions, the NiMH battery cells are accessible from the front for
easy replacement. The UPS neither needs to be dismantled nor dismounted from the DIN rail
for this purpose. It is only necessary to release two screws in the cover to replace the battery
module.
A special feature of the UPS series is its flexible communication capability, which allows the
retrieval of status values for diagnostic purposes or the configuration of the UPS. All IPCs with
an appropriate interface and a Windows 7 or 10 operating system can easily connect via USB
2.0. In the simplest case, such as when using a traditional PLC, digital I/Os are also available
so that, for example, the controller can read a power fail signal and respond accordingly.
The UPS connection supports even more convenient implementation with the UPS-OCT
one-cable solution, which is currently supported by the ultra-compact C6030 IPC, the CX52xx
Embedded PC series, and the CX2100-0024 Embedded PC power supply unit. This solution
combines the IPC power supply with the UPS communication in a single 24V DC cable, which
greatly simplifies installation. All Beckhoff Industrial and Embedded PCs will support UPS-OCT
in the future, the company says. (Beckhoff Automation, www.beckhoffautomation.com)
Vehicle overhead alarm bar: A-Safe Inc., a
manufacturer of protective guarding for warehouses, distribution centers, manufacturing facilities, and other workplace environments, has
introduced the “Alarm Bar,” a tubular product
that actively responds to impact to protect overhead assets from moving vehicles.
The Alarm Bar is made from A-Safe’s
Memaplex material, the company’s blend of eight materials and rubber additives that is
designed to absorb impact without incurring damage. The bar is just over six feet long (78
3/4 inches) and has a diameter of five inches. These are standard dimensions; custom systems
are available if ordered in bulk.
The product is self-powered, with 12-volt battery life providing more than two years of
constant power, the company says. Audio and visual alarms notify the operator of contact:
Two 102dB buzzers sound for 20 seconds after impact, and light-emitting diodes (LEDs) display two red flashing indicator strips that span the length of the bar, lasting for 40 seconds.
The lightweight, 28-pound Alarm Bar is suited for use in temperatures ranging from + 41
degrees F to 122 degrees F. (A-Safe Inc., www.asafe.com)
