Pneumatic-tire lift trucks: Cat Lift
Trucks has introduced a new series
of 8,000- to 12,000-pound capacity
diesel lift trucks with pneumatic
tires.
The DP40N1–DP55N1 Series
trucks feature a new diesel engine
that exceeds the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency’s Tier 4 Final
emissions standards, which regulate
diesel particulate and nitrogen oxide
emissions. This is the first Cat lift
truck product to feature a new Tier
4 Final engine. The new engine reduces particulate matter (or
“soot”) by 90 percent and nitrogen oxide by 50 percent while
also increasing fuel efficiency by 21. 6 percent.
The engine operates without requiring any ash service and features low noise levels, which helps reduce operator fatigue. (Cat

FTL quoting/bidding service: Unishippers Global Logistics LLC,
a small-package and freight shipping reseller for small and medium-sized businesses, has launched an online capability that
allows customers to quote and order full truckload (FTL) shipments. Unishippers developed the feature as part of its Freight
Manager online transportation management system.
Key features of the new tool include instant, guaranteed
quotes; a variety of FTL services and options from intermodal to
partial truckload; and access to all FTL, LTL (less-than-truckload),
and UPS small-package shipments from a single online transportation management system. The system provides customer
service for every shipment quoted or booked. It also offers tips for
quoting and booking FTL shipments.
The program can provide 180 days of shipment history and one
invoice for all the customer’s FTL, LTL, and UPS small-package
shipments. (Unishippers, www.unishippers.com)
Lift truck-mounted computer: Motorola’s new VC70N0 lift
truck-mounted mobile computer marks a major upgrade from
the company’s VC5090 line of vehicle-mounted computers.
The VC70N0 enables real-time data access and collection in a
wide range of environments—from the dock and warehouse to
the freezer. It can support applications for receiving, putaway,
replenishment, picking, packing, and shipping. Users can easily
add a variety of options to the VC70N0, including corded or cordless bar-code scanners, keyboards, and a variety of voice capabilities. According to Motorola, the VC70N0 helps improve inventory visibility and reduces errors in warehouses, cold storage, yards,
intermodal terminals, and seaports.
Designed to operate within the four walls of the distribution
center, the VC70N0 vehicle-mounted computer features the latest operating systems, 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi connectivity, and a
much smaller overall design. The smaller size makes the computer easier to mount and improves the visibility of the lift truck operator. The unit is 40 percent lighter than the previous VC5090
units and has an overall size of 10. 4 inches.
The VC70N0 can be used in both traditional telnet terminal-based environments and browser-based applications. (Motorola
