Eckart completes production site in China
Eckart has completed its first production facility in Asia, located in
Zhuhai, Guangdong, China. The
33,000 square-meter site includes
manufacturing for aluminum pigments for use in coatings and metallic
printing inks. The facilities will also
house laboratories, distribution shipping warehouses and offices. The company invested approximately € 10 million. Capacity will be 2,200 metric
tons per year and will be expanded to
5,000 metric tons in the coming years.
Eckart Zhuhai will be Altana’s fifth
production location in China, in addition to its numerous service laboratories and sales offices.
SUN CHEMICAL FORMS JV WITH
LIANYUNGANG HAIDI CHEMICALS
Sun Chemical and its parent company, DIC Corp., has formed a joint venture with Lianyungang Haidi
Chemicals, Co. Ltd., a leading high
performance pigment manufacturer
in China.
“This agreement expands Sun
Chemical’s manufacturing capabilities of high performance pigments for
our paints, coatings, plastics and ink
customers worldwide,” said Myron
Petruch, president, performance pigments, Sun Chemical. “It will also
enable us to further provide our customers with high performance pigments in Asia.”
The joint venture, Lianyungang
DIC Color Co., Ltd., will continue to
manufacture high performance pigments and sell them through the
worldwide sales network of DIC
Corp. and Sun Chemical. The JV will
eventually lead to an expansion of its
product line to a wider range of
organic high performance pigments
in the future.
ELIOKEM RECEIVES
ENERGY SAVER AWARD
Eliokem has received the 2008 Energy
Saver award presented by the U.S.
Department of Energy (DOE) for its
savings at its Akron, OH manufacturing site. The award is part of the Save
Energy Now program that honors companies that have achieved more than
75,000 MMBtu total energy savings or
more than 7.5% total energy savings
compared to the prior year.
The DOE’s Office of Energy
Efficiency and Renewable Energy,
recently recognized 128 U.S. manufacturers with Energy Saver awards. DOE
annually presents awards to individual
plants and companies for actively pursuing energy-saving opportunities
identified through a Save Energy Now
energy assessment. By implementing
assessment recommendations over the
last year, these 128 industrial plants
have achieved more than $37 million in
total cost savings and 2.9 trillion Btu in

AKZONOBEL OPENS ELOTEX
PRODUCTION FACILITY IN CHINA
AkzoNobel functional chemicals has
opened a new production site in
Shanghai, China for its Elotex building
material additives business. The facility, which produces redispersible powder polymers, has an annual capacity
of approximately 20,000 tons and
brings the total number of Elotex manufacturing plants worldwide to five.
