Kansai Paint patents polymer
Patent No. U.S. 7,649,027 B2
Kansai Paint Company has been
granted a patent for a process for producing a polymer, which is comprised
of a step of carrying out photopoly-merization of at least one photopoly-merizable polymerization precursor
containing a photocurable compound
having two or more unsaturated
bonds by irradiation with active energy ray in a supercritical fluid or subcritical fluid in the presence of at
least one additive component comprised of at least one organometal
complex for adding a polymer function to produce a polymer having juts
containing the additive component.
CABOT PATENTS PROCESS FOR
PRODUCTION OF CARBON BLACK
Patent No. U.S. 7,655,209 B2
Cabot Corporation has received a
patent for a furnace carbon black pro-
ducing process comprised of the steps of
(a) obtaining off-gas from a carbon
black furnace, (b) dewatering and heat-
ing the off-gas and substantially remov-
ing any existing carbon black therefrom
to obtain dewatered and heated off-gas,
and then (c) feeding a combustion gas
feed stream comprising the dewatered
and heated off-gas and feeding an oxi-
dant gas stream comprising an oxidant
gas to a burner portion of a carbon
black furnace, wherein the carbon black
furnace to which the combustion gas
feed stream and oxidant gas feed
stream are fed is a different carbon
black furnace from the carbon black
furnace of step (a), wherein the carbon
black furnace to which the combustion
gas feed stream and oxidant gas feed
stream are fed is comprised of the burn-
er portion wherein a combustion gas
feed stream is combusted in the pres-
ence of an oxidant gas feed stream to
produce hot combustion gases and a
reactor portion downstream of the
burner portion wherein the hot com-
bustion gases interact with a hydrocar-
bon feedstock to produce carbon black,
(d) controlling the combustion gas feed
stream and oxidant gas feed stream so
that combustion of the combustion gas
feed in the burner portion to produce
hot combustion gases takes place in a
fuel-rich condition so that the combus-
tion gas feed stream does not complete-
ly combust in the burner portion, and
(e) producing carbon black in the reac-
tor portion of the carbon black furnace
by interaction of the hot combustion
gases with a hydrocarbon feedstock
under the fuel rich conditions, wherein
in carrying out step (e), a hydrocarbon
feedstock is supplied to the reactor por-
tion by feeding the hydrocarbon feed-
stock to a passage between the burner
portion and the reactor portion of the
carbon black furnace.
CIBA PATENTS COLORANTS
ENCAPSULATED IN POLYMER MATRIX
Patent No. U.S. 7,648,715 B2
Ciba Specialty Chemicals Water
Treatments Ltd. has received a patent
for polymeric particles comprised of a
polymeric matrix and colorant distrib-
uted throughout the matrix, wherein
the polymeric matrix has been formed
from a blend of monomers comprised of
a first monomer which is an ethylenical-
ly unsaturated ionic monomer which is
anionic, and the anionic monomer is
(meth)acrylic acid and at least 60%
weight of a second monomer which is an
ethylenically unsaturated hydrophobic
monomer which is capable of forming a
homopolymer of glass transition tem-
perature in excess of 80° C, wherein the
second monomer is selected from the
group consisting of styrene, methyl
methacrylate, tertiary butyl methacry-
late, phenyl methacrylate, cyclohexyl
methacrylate and isobornyl methacry-
late, and in which the first monomer is
a salt of ammonia or a volatile amine
wherein the polymeric matrix is
crosslinked, the polymeric matrix
exhibits improved performance in
regard to the impermeability of the col-
orant and the colourant is selected from
the group consisting of pigments.
VALSPAR PATENTS LOW-HAP
AND ZERO-HAP POLYESTER RESIN
Patent No. U.S. 7,655,724 B2
Valspar Sourcing, Inc. has obtained a
patent for a polyester gelcoat composition comprised of a sprayable mixture of
an unsaturated polyester resin; reactive
diluents the majority by weight of which
contains a mixture of para-tertiary-butylstyrene and one or more additional
non-hazardous air pollutant solvents;
and one or more additives comprised of
an inhibitor, suppressant, surface tension agent, thixotropic agent, filler,
extender, promoter, copromoter, air
release agent, initiator, catalyst or pigment, wherein the gelcoat composition is
suitable for the spray up manufacture of
gelcoat coatings and gelcoat articles, and
is curable at a temperature of 0 to 30° C.
