ISP launches SunCare TopCoat additive
The Performance Chemicals business
of International Specialty Products
(ISP) has introduced a new technology
for protecting the integrity of coatings
from damage caused by UV radiation.
SunCare TopCoat technology is based
on nano-scale emulsions of UV protective actives offering broad spectrum
protection (290 to 380 nm) with outstanding performance in the UVA
range. According to ISP, tests have
shown that SunCare TopCoat can be
up to four times more effective than
traditional water-based coating UV-protection additives. This performance
results from the use of smaller particle
sizes of the UV active, with better particle distribution in the emulsion.
Applications for SunCare TopCoat
include exterior wood stains and var-nishes, indoor wood coatings and wood
care products, plasters and plastic.

DSM POWDER COATING RESINS
LAUNCHES TWO NEW RESINS
DSMPowder Coating Resins has
introduced two new resins that pro-
vide improvements on several prop-
erties of dry blend powder. Cus-
tomers’ demand for matt finishes has
led DSM to develop a resin system
which combines good mechanical
properties and outdoor durability
with excellent gloss consistency,
according to the company. Uralac P
837 (3% HAA) and Uralac P877 (7%
HAA) are both designed for dry blend
powder coating formulations while
exhibiting improved properties such
as increased outdoor durability, high-
er impact resistance, improved flow
properties and better gloss consisten-
cy. This, in addition to a reduced
sparkling effect and good blanching
properties, meets customers’ needs
for dry blend systems for matt coat-
ings. More info: DSM Powder Coating

DATACOLOR INTRODUCES SELECT
KIT COLOR MATCHING SYSTEM
Datacolor has recently introduced
the Datacolor Select Kit, a new tool
for retail paint and home décor outlets to provide customers with a com-puter-aided color matching system.
Datacolor Select Kit offers the following system features: color measurement and fast colorimetric search
and formula retrieval, customer formula storage and retrieval, manual
formula storage and adjustment,
match competitors’ fan deck colors,
instant color harmony device and
print labels and barcodes. Select Kit
offers precise color measurement
capabilities. By comparing the sample to countless colors stored in its
database, the software can quickly
and accurately determine which
selection provides the closest match
to the qualities of the orignal. More

ATLAS INTRODUCES NEW
ACCESSORIES FOR UVTEST
Atlas Material Testing Solutions has
introduced three accessories to its
UVTest fluorescent/UV condensation
instrument. UView data acquisition
software for the UVTest features
remote monitoring capabilities and
automatic configuration to user’s local
area network. The application provides
an overview of parameters to multiple
UVTest instruments in the lab. Atlas
uses a deionized (DI) water recircula-
tion system for the testing of the effects
of erosion due to rainfall. The water
recirculation system utilizes a 53 liter
tank, pump strainer and demineralizer
filter cartridge. Designed to fit in the
open storage area below the UVTest
exposure cabinet, the recirculation sys-
tem is controlled by the UVTest user
interface. The UVTest is also stackable,
allowing for increased capacity while
maintaining the footprint of a single
unit. More info: Atlas Material Testing

AIR PRODUCTS OFFERS
THREE NEW DEFOAMERS
Air Products has introduced three new
defoamers for the coatings, graphic arts
and adhesive markets. These new
defoamers are engineered to be
alkylphenol ethoxylate (APE)-free and
offer long-lasting foam control and
defect-free surfaces. Surfynol DF-178 is
a formulated defoamer and de-aerator
that provides strong defoaming and
microfoam control and is particularly
effective in spray applications. It was
developed to provide the defoaming
strength of a silicone-based defoamer
but with the superior system compatibility needed in the demanding higher
gloss and clear coat applications used in
waterborne coatings. Surfynol DF-220
is a mineral oil-based defoamer that
was engineered to provide exceptional
defoaming in architectural and high
PVC (Pigment Volume Concentration)
paints and coatings. This 100% active
product contains no silica, silicones or
APEs. Surfynol DF-110C defoamer is a
defoaming/deairentraining agent useful
for a wide variety of applications. This
nonionic, water-free, and silicone-free
material can be utilized in areas where
foam prevention or foam elimination is
necessary without causing film problems. Some of the benefits include
microfoam elimination, long-lasting
foam control, defect-free foam control,
and good dynamic wetting. More info:
