AkzoNobel India names new chairman
Akzo Nobel India Limited (formerly
ICI India Limited) has announced a
number of changes to its board. After
37 years with the company, Aditya
Narayan has announced his retirement as chairman of Akzo Nobel India
Limited effective October 1, 2010. He
was appointed chairman of the board
of the company in April 2003.
The board of directors of Akzo
Nobel India Limited elected Nihal
Kaviratne CBE, who had joined the
Board in 2009, to be the next chairman of its Board. Kaviratne has had
a global career with Unilever spanning 40 years. He joined the company
in India as a management trainee in
1966, and held a series of increasingly senior roles including head of marketing research and economics, and
general manager of export division.
He was appointed senior vice president, development and environmental affairs, Unilever Asia, based in
Singapore, and chairman of
Unilever’s home and oral care busi-nesses in Asia.
KENLINE NAMED GM
FOR ARCH BIOCIDES’
Arch Chemicals has promoted Mark
Kenline to general manager for Arch
Biocides Preservation and Protection
business. In this role, he will lead
management responsibilities for the
building products, marine antifouling
paints, metal working fluids, plastics
and custom chemicals business units.
H.B. FULLER ADDS
HANDLEY TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS
H.B. Fuller Company announced
that Thomas W. Handley was elected
as an independent member to its
board of directors, effective immedi-
ately. Handley’s position expands the
board to eight directors, seven of
whom are independent. Handley is
currently president of Ecolab’s global
food and beverage division.
AMERICAN CHEMET ANNOUNCES
NEW PRESIDENT AND CEO
American Chemet Corporation of
Deerfield, IL and East Helena, MT,
elected William H. Shropshire president
and CEO. Shropshire has been with the
organization for more than a decade
serving in a variety of roles, most
recently as executive vice president. He
will be replacing W. W. Shropshire who
has become chairman of the board.
VANDEMARK CHEMICAL
ESTABLISHES EUROPEAN OFFICE
VanDeMark Chemical, Inc. of
Lockport, NY has opened a new business office in West Yorkshire, UK.
Patricia Hughes has been appointed
head of sales and business development for the office, responsible for
market development, sales and customer service throughout Europe.
Hughes joins VanDeMark having acted
in a business advisory role since 2005.
Prior to this she worked 17 years for
C6 Solutions Ltd. (formerly Hickson &
Welsh), a chemical producer, where she
held various positions, most recently
as business development manager.
MICHELMAN MAKES
ADDITIONS TO MANAGEMENT TEAM
Michelman, Inc. has announced a num-
ber of key additions to its management
team at the company’s Singapore man-
ufacturing plant. Michael Heng has
been named commercial director – Asia,
and will be responsible for developing
and managing Michelman’s short- and
long-term commercial strategies for the
Asian markets. Heng has extensive
experience in the chemical and polymer
industry in Asia Pacific. He was most
recently commercial manager for the
coating and inks business unit for
Eastman Chemical Company, where he
had worked for over 20 years.
LORD CORPORATION NAMES
CHOWDHRY TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Lord Corp. has named Uma Chowdhry
to its board of directors. Chowdhry is
the senior vice president and chief science and technology officer at DuPont.
Joining DuPont in 1977 as a research
scientist in central research and
development at the DuPont
Experimental Station in Wilmington,
DE, she was the first woman to be
appointed laboratory director at this
facility. Chowdhry’s early work at
DuPont focused on developing catalysts for making tetrahydrofuran. In
1987, she led DuPont’s research effort
in ceramic superconducting materials
and developed a program that generated more than 20 patents and 50 publications. She has held a number of
research and business management
positions with the company. CW
