Power trip: TNT and Con-way Freight have expanded their year-old multimodal alliance to provide export service from the United States to Europe.

Under the service, which is geared to heavier-weight consignments, Con-way will handle the U.S. pickup, consolidation, and loading of Europe-bound shipments at New York’s Kennedy International Airport. TNT will clear the goods upon arrival at its European hub at Belgium’s Liege Airport. The shipments will then enter TNT’s air and road network for final delivery. The companies estimate a three- to six-day delivery window from departure at JFK Airport to arrival at final destinations in Europe.

The U.S. export service mirrors a similar operation for U.S. imports that began last April.

“Our alliance with TNT allows us to provide fast, reliable intercontinental service to meet the growing international shipping needs of our customers, which is increasingly important in today’s global economy,” said John G. Labrie, president, Con-way Freight, in a statement.

They have it all sorted out: Intelligrated has added tilt-tray and cross-belt sortation solutions to its portfolio of high-speed sliding shoe, strip belt, and pop-up wheel sorters. The additions are the result of Intelligrated’s 2009 acquisition of FKI Logistex, which included FKI’s Crisplant sorter technology.

As the exclusive provider of Crisplant technology in North and South America, Intelligrated now designs, sells, manufactures, and supports the complete line of Crisplant tilt-tray and cross-belt sorters, along with the associated software, controls, and induction and chute solutions. The equipment features the latest in material handling and sortation technology, including energy-efficient linear synchronous motors, variable speed drives, and smart machine controls.

Crisplant loop sorters from Intelligrated are designed to meet the demands of high-speed, high-capacity, high-accuracy product flow in the retail, apparel, footwear, pharmaceutical, publishing, jewelry, and post and parcel markets. (Intelligrated, www.intelligrated.com)

Ivy League quality: Yale Materials Handling Corp. announces two new electric rider lift truck models—the three-wheel ERP030-040VT and the four-wheel ERP030-040VF. Both models provide lifting capacities of 3,000 to 4,000 pounds.

The highly maneuverable trucks are suitable for a variety of warehouse applications, according to the manufacturer. Their maneuverability is a result of their zero turn radius steer axles and dual AC drive motors. These independent, front-wheel motors rotate the drive tires in opposite directions, which places the center of turn between the drive tires. The lift trucks are available with a 36- or 48-volt, low-maintenance AC traction and hydraulic motor. These brushless AC technology motors provide powerful acceleration and faster travel speeds even with a load, while also supporting quick lift and lower speeds.

The lift trucks also feature four operator performance modes to allow performance to be tailored to the specific application and the operator’s ability, increasing overall productivity and efficiency.
