Complete solution: TGW introduces a fully
automated and very modular picking solution for retail distribution centers. The TGW
PerfectPick solution handles every SKU
directly on its conveyor and storage equipment without the need for additional load
carriers. The system’s lean modules, based
on standardized components, enable customers to choose among different levels of
automation, depending on their individual needs.
The PerfectPick solution easily handles a wide range of product sizes and weights. The
process starts with the automated depalletizing of single-SKU pallets coming directly from
receiving or pallet storage. Layer by layer, the fully automatic depalletizing unit—Splitex—
separates each package or carton from the pallet and delivers it to the automated conveyor system that feeds the subsequent operations, including automated storage.
TGW’s automated mini-load storage and retrieval technology—Twister—handles
the singularized SKUs. Between one and four packages of the same product are
stored in one storage channel, while still offering access to individual SKUs.
Within the mini-load sequence buffer, two high-speed TGW Commissioner AS/R
machines sort the incoming SKU batches into a rack to create an optimum
sequence. When needed, the products are discharged in sequence to the palletizing process using TGW’s Autostax palletizing unit. This system can load more than
eight pallets per hour with an average of 90 cartons per pallet. The customer can
also opt for the highly ergonomic manual palletizing work station Slotstax. The worker at the Slotstax is provided with the right products by the fully automated conveyor system in a predefined sequence. The pallet position is automatically adjusted to
its actual loading height. The finished pallet is then automatically shrink-wrapped and
made ready for shipping. (TGW, www.tgw-group.com)

Flexible printing: Printronix Inc. unveils the
P7000 cartridge line matrix printer. This new
printer gives users the advantage of a cartridge
that enables easy replacement while delivering
ease of change, clean-hands installation, uniform
print quality, and longer ribbon life.
Printronix line matrix printers work predictably
and consistently in challenging physical environments, performing reliably under temperature
and humidity extremes as well as when using
low-quality paper or paper with a high recycled
content. The P7000 is also suited for printing
multipart forms.
The P7000’s new cartridge technology flips
and rotates the ribbon systematically to distribute the wear over the entire surface. This yields
more uniform print quality and improves the
readability of documents and labels, according to
the company. In addition to print quality
enhancements, the flipping and rotation of the
cartridge ribbon allows the user to maximize ink
usage in the ribbon fabric for longer ribbon life.
Printronix’s PrintNet Enterprise Suite of print
management software enables remote management of printers from anywhere in the world.
General maintenance alerts about printer jams,
ribbon life, and equipment failures can be sent
by e-mail to the local operator, resulting in fewer
user interruptions and reduced consumable
cost. (Printronix, www.Printronix.com)
Eliminating emissions: Total Fleet Solutions
(TFS), an independent fleet management company that specializes in the reduction of costs
associated with forklifts and material handling
equipment, announces the creation of the TFS
Green Division. The TFS Green Division is
focused on reducing the greenhouse gas emissions and carbon footprint of a customer’s forklift and material handling equipment fleets,
while at the same time reducing the total cost of
ownership.
The average 20-truck forklift fleet produces
over 2,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions
annually. Through the use of state-of-the-art
analysis tools and seasoned professionals, TFS
has created a program using technology and
material handling expertise to help reduce or
eliminate greenhouse gas emissions from its
customers’ forklift and material handling equipment fleets. This program provides three distinct
benefits: the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, improved operational performance, and a
total cost reduction. TFS services include site surveys, application analysis, cost analysis, consortium procurement, invoice audit/processing,
reporting, and daily fleet management. (Total
