Composite pallet: By combining sand
and plastic, shipping platform specialist Paxxal
Inc. has created a composite material for
pallets that has some properties similar to
wood. Paxxal has now designed a version of
this “siluma” plastic pallet specifically for the
North American market.
What makes siluma plastic unique is that
the sand acts as a natural fire retardant, the
company says. That means Paxxal’s pallets do
not need to be treated with a fire retardant,
unlike most other plastic and composite plastic pallets. The Paxxal pallet is currently in the
process of being certified by Factory Mutual
and Underwriters Laboratories.
The pallet weighs between 44 and 45
pounds and costs between $50 and $60.

Pallet magazine: Danish
manufacturer Palomat has
introduced a new space-saving
pallet magazine, the Palomat
Adjustable. The unit automatically stacks and unstacks empty
Euro or industrial pallets individually at floor
level, handling two types of pallets in the
same magazine.
The newly developed pallet magazine is
suitable for those companies utilizing both
Euro and industrial pallets in the same section
of the business, and where space is limited.
The pallets can be handled in an easy and
user-friendly way with a pallet truck, electric
pallet stacker, or forklift truck. The Palomat
Adjustable can spare employees the task of
manually lifting heavy pallets, which in turn
can improve the work environment, the company says. (Palomat, www.palomat.com)
Pallet sanitization solution: Pure
Pure Hard Surface is a mist-spray applied to
the surfaces of plastic pallets inside a trailer to
quickly eliminate microorganisms, preventing
cross contamination. According to the company, test results demonstrated rapid efficacy
(consistently reducing bacteria counts by over
96 percent), coupled with a highly favorable
safety profile.
The solution was developed to help food
transportation operations comply with the
Food Safety Modernization Act requirement
that transport equipment be sanitized to
prevent food contamination. The odorless disinfectant comes ready to use. (Pure Bioscience

Low-weight container: Transport packaging maker Eco Pack Systems has
introduced a low-weight container solution to the U.S. market. The company says
the new container enables fully customizable point-of-purchase branding and
reduces product spoilage and damage with maximum airflow.
The Eco Pack system consists of an easy-to-assemble plastic frame and two lightweight plastic sleeves that together create a multipurpose recyclable box. The frame
has the same dimensions as standard paperboard cartons and plastic crates, and is
suitable for palletizing. The bags are customized for specific commodities. (Eco Pack
