SPOTLIGHT ON ….
RACKS AND SHELVING
Shelf converter: Lista,
a manufacturer of modular
storage equipment, has introduced the Shelf Converter
system—a product designed
to transform bulk shelf space
into a high-density drawer
storage solution. The Shelf
Converter is a modular drawer
insert that retrofits into standard 18- and 24-inch-deep
industrial shelving, allowing
for much higher storage density. It is compatible with multiple brands of shelving products, the manufacturer says.
Engineered to help operations in the healthcare, manufacturing, automotive, maintenance and repair, and assembly
sectors reach peak efficiency, the Lista Shelf Converter system
can increase storage capacity by 50 percent, according to the
company.
The added shelf converter drawers are ideal for storing small
parts, making inventory easier to locate, pick, and manage, the
manufacturer says. All recessed drawers extend fully to allow
easy access to items in the farthest corners.
The converter frame is available in four sizes with multiple
drawer width and height options. Drawers can be labeled with
hinged handle covers and Lista Script software to improve organization and product retrieval time. (Lista, www.listaintl.com)
Cantilever racking system: Steel pallet rack manufacturer
Hannibal Industries Inc. says its cantilever racks are ideal for storing long, bulky products such as carpet rolls, lumber, pipe, and
tubing. The racking system is available in heavy-duty structural or medium-duty roll-formed designs.
The company works
closely with systems
integrators, consultants,
and forklift suppliers to
create custom solutions
for specific distribution
needs. The Hannibal
in-house design team
will help ensure the cantilever racking system
meets or exceeds seismic requirements, building codes, and
fire department requirements, the company says. (Hannibal

Roller rack: Unex Manufacturing
Inc., a provider of order picking solutions, has introduced a new roller
rack for distribution, manufacturing,
and retail operations where carton flow is required and pallets do
not need to be stored above the rack.
Designed for gravity flow to increase efficiency, boost safety,
and allow for first-in/first-out (FIFO) inventory rotation on the pick
line, the roller racks offer fast pick rates and free up warehouse
space for additional stock-keeping units (SKUs). According to
Unex, travel time for order pickers is reduced by as much as 80
percent because the SKU storage on roller racks is seven times
denser per bay than pallet rack storage.
Unex roller racks arrive preconfigured for easy assembly and
feature the company’s Span-Track carton flow system. Unex
Span-Track is a carton flow solution for full-case and split-case
(each) order picking. Span-Track also drops into existing structures to create an efficient carton flow rack roller system, keeping
product at the pick point for the worker. (Unex Manufacturing
Inc., www.unex.com)
Contoured rack protector: Sentry Protection Products has
introduced the Rack Sentry Contour, an updated version of its
Rack Sentry rack protector. The new unit’s contoured shape,
curved and slim, was engineered to reduce its footprint and
increase the amount of rack clearance available to forklift drivers,
while also offering a secure fit to rack uprights.
The Contour model’s tapered arms were designed to reduce
the rear face of the protector by more than 90 percent and are
removable for a secure fit on half-depth racks. In addition, the
design has been improved to fit over beam connector hardware.
When the Contour is hit, the impact leaves a temporary indentation on its surface, indicating that the rack upright has been
hit and the Contour should be removed so that the rack can be
inspected for damage. After a short time, the Contour “pops”
back to its original shape.
Like the original Rack Sentry, the Rack Sentry Contour can be
installed or removed in seconds; no tools are necessary. Velcro
straps provide increased holding power. All sizes feature Sentry’s
cut-out for horizontal on-beam installations.
Made from a mix of flexible polymers, the Rack Sentry Contour
is available in sizes to fit all rack uprights. The company also
offers a Rack Sentry Contour End to protect end frames and corner uprights. (Sentry Protection Products, www.sentrypro.com)
Gravity flow racks: Topper Industrial has added the
TopFlow steel gravity flow racks to its product line. Constructed
of galvanized steel square tubing, the racks are designed to utilize roller flow design.
Lineside workers can load inventory and ergonomically pick
using gravity to roll material from back to front. The galvanized
steel tubing allows for a sturdy structure, enabling users to implement first-in/first-out replenishment processes at high weight
load capacities. (Topper Industrial, www.topperindustrial.com)
