The rise of digital freight marketplaces and demand forsupply chain visibility have spawned a movement to trackand rank the performance of truck fleets through a flood ofstatistics and big data.
Digital freight marketplace startup Transfix recentlylaunched a program that rewards its highest-performing carriers with increased freight volumes, saying the invite-onlysystem leverages the capabilities of its logisticians and customer service professionals, as opposed to relying on fullyautomated technology.
That announcement follows a similar launch by the onlinetruck brokerage Convoy, which now allows shippers toaccess real-time data on carrier performance from withinthe firm’s transportation management system (TMS). Andthe supply chain visibility provider FourKites now publishesa quarterly “Premier Carrier List” that includes some 200brokers, carriers, and third-party logistics service providers(3PLs) that provide high-quality, consistent, accurate data onthe vast majority of their loads.
New York-based Transfix says it uses artificial intelligence(AI) and machine learning (ML) technology to optimize theprocess of matching freight carriers with shippers, all thewhile reducing empty miles to help eliminate waste. The new“Core Carrier Program” singles out “exceptional” carrierswho meet requirements like a high load acceptance rate, a lowcancellation rate, and consistently strong performance withrespect to on-time pickup and on-time delivery. In return,Transfix will invite those carriers to join the program, offering them increased freight volume, early access to consistentloads, a dedicated account manager, and 24/7 support. n
