Dimensioning/weighing system: Quantronix
Inc.’s CubiScan 25 dimensioning and weighing
system is designed to specifically measure and
weigh smaller, irregular-shaped items for distribution, packaging, and warehousing applications. The CubiScan 25 integrates infrared
sensing technology to measure smaller individual items as well as many smaller boxed and
case-pack items, in one comprehensive cubing
and weighing system.
The CubiScan 25 is equipped for handling
challenging cubing and weighing applications,
such as on-demand box making and measuring small, odd-shaped items and boxes for
distribution applications in industries such as
pharmaceuticals, health and beauty aids, and
book publishing.
The CubiScan 25 is designed to maximize
storage space and enhance cartonization methods, which can reduce the use of packaging
materials and reduce shipping costs. It can also
benefit the environment by reducing packaging
waste and minimizing transportation fuel costs
and carbon emissions.
The CubiScan 25 has a measurement capacity of up to 18 by 12 by 12 inches with a measurement accuracy of 0.05 inches and weight
resolution of 0.005 pounds. CubiScan’s proprietary software, Qbit, delivers menu-based
operator controls, data storage/transfer, and
diagnostics, all with a touchscreen interface.
Customers can also order a mobile cart and
accessories, such as a portable power supply
and a handheld bar-code scanner, to create
a mobile cubing, weighing, and identification
workstation. (Quantronix, www.cubiscan.com)
Near-miss reporting system: WorkplaceAware
is a solution that allows employees to report
near-miss incidents from anywhere via text
message, without having to fill out pages
of paperwork or holding up the workday. If
employees choose, reports can be submitted
anonymously. Reports are texted using the
WorkplaceAware app and are instantly printed and uploaded to an enterprise dashboard
so safety or human resource managers can
address the situation.
The solution tries to make it easier for
employees to report near-miss incidents while
eliminating reporting barriers such as fear of
consequence, a desire to avoid red tape, and
not wanting to interrupt the flow of work.

Lift truck engines: Yale Materials Handling
Corp.’s 3,000- to 7,000-pound Class IV and
V lift trucks have a new line of industrial
engines from Power Solutions International
Inc. (PSI). According to Yale, the new engines
offer exceptional fuel efficiency and power
coupled with reduced maintenance requirements. These attributes enable operators to
move more loads with less downtime.
The new engines feature Yale Flex Performance Technology, which allows operators to select the truck’s performance modes to match the demands of the operation. This feature empowers operators to maximize fuel economy or enhance
performance based on fluctuating demand, according to Yale.
The new PSI engines also offer extended service intervals and reduced periodic
maintenance requirements, helping decrease maintenance and downtime. They
feature hydraulic valve lifters instead of mechanical lifters, eliminating the need
for valve adjustments. An innovative coil-over plug ignition design eliminates spark
plug wires and associated replacement requirements.
Yale says that customers using the new PSI engine will see increased travel
and hoist speeds along with increased horsepower—up to 10 percent over the
previous engine.
The engines underwent more than 30,000 hours of testing to ensure maximum
reliability and performance. (Yale Materials Handling Corp., www.yale.com)
