Film release liner: Smith Corona, a
manufacturer of thermal printers and thermal
ribbon technologies, has developed a new
film release liner. The company plans to roll
out this new product at the Pack Expo in
November.
Pressure-sensitive labels are quickly becoming the industry standard for labeling applications, and a new market is emerging for
film liners to help meet end-user demand and
improve productivity. Film liners are thinner
and lighter weight than paper liners and can
therefore be packaged with more labels to a
roll. So, freight costs go way down and storage space goes way up. In addition to this,
film is 100 percent recyclable and ecofriendly,
so factories reduce scrap and save money
on disposal costs. Film release liners are also
more convenient for auto-apply because sensors can better differentiate between liner and
paper as opposed to paper and paper, which
subsequently increases printing accuracy.
In many cases with paper liners, humidity
can negatively impact product performance.
It may also affect the curl or stickiness of
the label. By contrast, film is not sensitive to
humidity, and it protects the adhesive coating
from being affected by moisture. This creates
a smoother release and improved dispensing
at the peel plate. (Smith Corona, www.smith-corona.com)
Portable lift system: TVH in the Americas, a
provider of replacement parts and accessories
for the material handling and industrial equipment industry, now offers Mobile Column
The Mobile Column Lift
features a wireless communication system and
a state-of-the-art touch-screen graphic control system that gives
users easy access to on-board manuals and
instructional videos. This versatile lift system is
portable and helps to improve a shop’s safety,
productivity, and flexibility.
The lift can be operated in sets of two,
four, six, or eight and allows for a lift capacity
range of 15,000 pounds to 108,000 pounds.
The Mobile Column Lift has no external wires
or cords, providing clear, safe access to the
vehicle’s undercarriage. (TVH in the Americas,

Less-than-containerload service: CaroTrans, a global nonvessel-operating common carrier and ocean freight consolidator, has added a second direct weekly LCL
service between Milan and New York, providing greater scheduling flexibility for
global supply chains. The twice-weekly service began the first week of July. Both
services have 14-day transits, enabling consistent, fluid delivery of LCL freight to
North American markets for timely local distribution. (CaroTrans International,
