Nippon patents latex polymer for paint
Patent No. U.S. 7,220,797 B2
Nippon A&L Inc. has obtained a
patent for a method for producing a
copolymer latex for chip-resistant
aqueous paint. The method is comprised of emulsion-polymerizing 20-
80 parts by weight of a conjugated
diene as a monomer, 0. 5-15 parts by
weight of an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid as a monomer, 5-
40 parts by weight of an aromatic
vinyl compound as a monomer, 5-40
parts by weight of an unsaturated
alkyl carboxylate as a monomer and
optionally not more than 69.5 parts
by weight of other compound having
vinyl group copolymerizable therewith as a monomer based on 100
parts by weight in the total of the
monomers, wherein 100% weight of
the amount of conjugated diene,
100% weight of the amount of ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid,
95-50% weight of the amount of aromatic vinyl compound and 95-50%
weight of the amount of the unsaturated alkyl carboxylate are added in
the former stage of the emulsion-polymerization, and 5-50% weight of
the amount of the aromatic vinyl
compound and 5-50% weight of the
amount of the unsaturated alkyl carboxylate are added at the later stage
of emulsion-polymerization.
AMBIENT-CURED FLEXIBLE
FLUOROELASTOMER COATING
Patent No. U.S. 7,220,487 B2
Lord Corporation has received a
patent for an ambient temperature
curable coating composition in a mixture of two-parts providing a nonvolatiles content of from 4-25% by
weight, and comprised of a part A
which is comprised of an organic solvent and fluoroelastomer dissolved
therein, the fluoroelastomer containing crosslinkable sites in quantita-
tive amount according to an acid
number of from 2-6 mg base per
gram, and a part B comprised of an
organosilane comprising hydrolyzable groups and a mono primary
amine, wherein the ratio of amine
equivalents in part B to acid equivalents in part the A ranges from 3:1 to
12:1 and wherein a cured unsupported film from the coating exhibits at
least 200% elongation.
BASF PATENTS
ACRYLIC COMPOSITION
Patent No. U.S. 7,220,811 B2
BASF Corporation has received a
patent for an acrylic composition
comprised of the reaction product of
an acrylic polymer comprised of the
reaction product of a functionalized
monomer; a first compound reactive
with the functionalized monomer to
form a functionalized intermediate,
the first compound comprised of
vinyl functionality reactive with the
functionalized monomer and epoxy
functionality; and a highly branched,
polyfunctional core molecule reactive
with the functionalized intermediate
to form the acrylic polymer; and carbon dioxide that is reactive with the
epoxy functionality of the acrylic
polymer to form a carbonate-func-tional acrylic polymer.
ROHM AND HAAS
PATENTS REMOVABLE COATING
Patent No. U.S. 7,230,060 B2
Rohm and Haas Co. has been
granted a patent for a coating composition comprised of a multi-stage
emulsion polymer that is both radiation curable and removable and
includes carboxylic functional groups
in the coating that react with one or
more chemical stripping agents,
effecting the removal of the coating
from a substrate, wherein a shell of
the multi-stage emulsion polymer is
comprised of a carboxylic acid-con-taining emulsion polymer that is
comprised of, as polymerized units,
one or more comonomers having carboxylic acid functionality, wherein
the multistage emulsion polymer
further is comprised of 5-80%, based
on equivalents of acid groups, polyvalent metal ion.
COATING COMPOSITION
FOR A METAL SUBSTRATE
Patent No. U.S. 7,232,479 B2
Dacral of Creil, France has
obtained a patent for a coating composition for a metal substrate having
a free outer surface, formed by a
layer of zinc or of a zinc-based alloy,
wherein the coating composition is
comprised (in percent by weight):
sodium and/or potassium and/or
lithium silicate(s) incorporated in
the form of an aqueous solution: 3-
35%; surfactant: 0.01-1%; a silane, in
an amount of up to 50% by weight of
dry coating; water: qs 100% and
wherein the composition has a surface tension value of between 20
mN/m and 50 mN/n.
MERCK PATENTS IRIDESCENT
PIGMENT WITH HIGH
BRILLIANCE AND HIGH CHROMA
Patent No. U.S. 7,241,503 B2
Merck Patent GmbH has obtained
a patent for an iridescent pigment
comprised of a platelet shaped substrate, and coated thereon (a) a layer
adjacent to the substrate which layer
is a metal oxide layer comprised of
one or more of Ce, Sn or Fe oxides,
and wherein the pigment is comprised of one or more repeating set
of metal oxide layers of Sn followed
by Ti, or (b) a layer unit of Sn oxide
and therein Ti oxide, the unit repeated one or more times. CW
