Cognis offers Sovermol 1092 “green” polyol
Cognis has recently launched
Sovermol 1092, a bio-based, VOC-free,
branched polyether/-ester polyol.
Sovermol 1092 performs under critical
curing conditions, such as high temperatures and high humidity and
exhibits water resistance and hard
elastic performance combined with a
shore D hardness of approximately 85,
according to Cognis. Sovermol is ideally suited for applications where high
performance is required such as flooring, roofing, encapsulation, and composite coatings and adhesives. More

DOW CORNING OFFERS
WATER REPELLENT EMULSION
Dow Corning IE-6683 water repellent
emulsion produces a low-VOC
hydrophobic treatment that reduces
and inhibits water absorption to
increase the life of a building substrate. Designed for application on
mineral substrates such as brick,
stone, concrete and mortar, Dow
Corning IE-6683 has a small molecular
structure that alleviates excess water
absorption to help reduce spalling from
freeze-thaw and efflorescence. IE-6683
is a 40% active silane/siloxane emulsion
that can be supplied in a fully active or
diluted form for water repellent products. According to the company, it maintains excellent performance and stability at low active solid levels, from 5-10%,
that allows for higher dilution rates.

UNION PROCESS INTRODUCES
COMBINATION ATTRITOR
Union Process has recently produced a
hybrid laboratory mill with a vertical
shaft adjustment that combines features of its HSA-1 and 1-S model attritors. The vertical shaft adjustment feature is designed to accommodate different sizes of grinding media. The
drive system allows users to switch
between the high speed HSA system
with a side discharge and the conventional 1-S system with a bottom discharge. The HSA tank cover is a two-piece, stainless steel design with
charging chute and vent. The 1-S tank
cover is a one-piece nylon-coated stainless steel cover with charging port and
brush seal for dust control. More info:

MICHELMAN LAUNCHES
WAX DISPERSIONS
Michelman now offers two wax dispersions that can be used for imparting a
matting effect to most aqueous coatings and varnishes. Michem Guard
349 and Michem Guard 350 also offer
water repellency, scratch, mar, abrasion and slip resistance. Characterized
by a larger particle size, Michem
Guard 349 is a non-ionic polyethylene,
while Michem Guard 350 is a non-ionic
Fischer-Tropsch wax dispersion. Both
are solvent-free and are designed to
highlight the positive properties of
large particle-sized wax and minimize
unnecessary interaction from dispersing agents. More info: Michelman,

WINGTACK HYDROCARBON
RESINS FROM CRAY VALLEY
Cray Valley has introduced new
Wingtack STS aromatically modified
C5 resin. This hydrocarbon resin is
designed for improved compatibility
and performance with low-cost SBS
block co-polymers. According to the
company, Wingtack STS, when used in
butadiene-based elastomers, offers
extremely low odor and excellent compatibility with polar elastomers.
Wingtack STS also provides lower melt
viscosities than typical SBS systems.
Applications for this modified resin
include, pressure sensitive and hot-melt adhesives. More info: Cray Valley.

TEGO OFFERS AIREX DEAERATOR
FOR WATER-BASED COATINGS
Tego coating additives and specialty
resins has introduced Tego Airex 904
W, a new deaerator designed to eliminate micro-foam in clear and pigmented wood, architectural and industrial
water-based coatings. It combines good
compatibility with increased effectiveness for use in acrylic, styrene acrylic,
vinyl and EVA emulsions, polyurethane
dispersions, and acrylic-urethane
hybrid systems. Airex 904 W prevents
the development of micro-foam in airless and air-assisted airless spray applications with minimal risk of surface
defects. Pigmented coatings based on
water-based two-pack polyurethane
can be applied micro-foam-free using
Airex 904 W. End uses include wood
furniture, parking garages and flexible formulations for athletic surfaces.
