Eliokem has introduced Hydro Pliolite
into the North America market. This
water-based acrylic copolymer emulsion
is designed specifically for high performance masonry coatings and has
experienced success in Europe since its
launch there in 2003. Hydro Pliolite utilizes an emulsified binding system
(EBS) designed to penetrate into the
substrate to allow better adhesion than
conventional latex polymers. The EBS
technology consists of both solution solvent polymers and water-based polymers resulting in a water-based copolymer. This technology allows the formulation of high quality exterior and interior waterborne masonry coatings. This
product forms a film while the water
evaporates and leaves a solvent interior
which can penetrate and adhere to multiple surfaces. Hydro Pliolite in Europe
has achieved success in interior wall
and ceiling paints, flat masonry paints
and pigmented surface conditioners.
During this first American launch,
Eliokem is promoting Hydro Pliolite for
exterior concrete cure and seals and

UV-CURE HYBRID HARD COAT
Dow Corning Corp. has introduced a
new high-performing UV-cure hybrid
hard coat technology. This advanced
fluorosilicone coating technology can
be used on a variety of substrates
such as portable electronic devices
such as cell phones, computers, MP3
players and GPS devices, and for
automotive components including
wheels, roof racks and trim.
According to Dow Corning, its fluorosilicone technology platform offers
innovation and sustainability,
enabling improved surface performance. This UV-cure technology
reduces energy usage, contains no
ozone-depleting chemicals, has a
high solids content and is PFOA-free.

new range of waterborne two-component polyurethane resins that are
completely solvent-free and deliver
high gloss, body and filling performance. NeoCryl XK-531, NeoCryl 541
and NeoCryl XK-555 are designed for
metal applications and are the company’s first high gloss and solvent-free waterborne 2K PUR resins. The
new non-VOC emulsions allow high
blister-free film build coatings. They
allow formulators to make paint with
a solvent content of less than 100 g/l.

Rio Tinto Minerals has recently
launched Firebrake ZB zinc borate.
Firebrake ZB is a unique form of zinc
borate which provides excellent flame
retardant, smoke suppressant and
char promoter properties in intumescent paints, according to the company.
When combined with HAR (high
aspect ratio) talc, Firebrake ZB
demonstrates synergistic effects that
result in a significant increase in char
thickness and a sharp reduction in
