BASF has launched Pluracoat Performa
CF20, the newest addition to the Pluracoat high performance coatings additives line developed for waterborne technologies. Pluracoat CF20 is a multi-func-tional wetting and dispersing agent for
color development and color acceptance
that is designed to deliver enhanced
functional performance, formulation
flexibility and environmental benefits.
ARKEMA RELEASES
KYNAR AQUATEC FMA RESINS
Arkema has released Kynar Aquatec
FMA (fluoropolymer-modified acrylic)
resins, designed for compliant cool roof
coatings and protective topcoats for exterior building products. This waterborne
acrylic modified PVDF fluoropolymer
technology greatly extends the effective
lifespan of solar reflective cool roof coatings and extends long-term weather protection and stay-clean properties for
roofs and exterior building components.
CYTEC LAUNCHES TANNIN BLOCKING
EMULSION FOR WOOD COATINGS
Cytec Industries Inc. has launched
Duroxyn VEF 2406 barrier primer and
Duroxyn EF 2107 liquid coating resins.
These products represent a new technology for effective tannin blocking coatings
without the use of reactive pigments.
These resins provide a platform for fast
drying coatings with excellent recoat
properties, according to the company.
The coatings are below 100g/L VOC and
still match or exceed performance properties of conventional solventborne tannin blocking primers.
CELANESE INTRODUCES MOWILITH
LDM 1865 & ECOVAE 408
Celanese Emulsion Polymers has introduced Mowilith LDM 1865, a new vinyl
acetate/ethylene (VAE) emulsion
designed for low VOC, exterior masonry
facade paint and plasters. Mowilith
LDM 1865 is designed to offer a low VOC
alternative for exterior paint and plasters currently formulated with styrene-acrylic, pure acrylic and vinyl versatate
emulsions. Paint and plasters made with
Mowilith LDM 1865 exhibit outdoor
durability, color retention and low dirt
pick up, according to the company. The
emulsion also imparts good fire retardant properties to resulting formulations. The company also launched the
newest member of the EcoVAE emulsion
family—EcoVAE 408. It is designed for
use in low odor, low VOC interior decorative paints that require freeze/thaw stability. The emulsion is a vinyl
acetate/ethylene base, is APE-free, has a
low residual monomer level and can be
formulated into low VOC coatings to
achieve green certifications.
DOW CORNING OFFERS 55N ADDITIVE
Dow Corning has introduced Dow
Corning 55N Additive, a performance-enhancing additive that brings excellent
abrasion resistance, leveling and slip to
clear and pigmented paints, coatings
and inks without generating excessive
foam or compromising the gloss or clarity of the finished coating, according to
the company. 55N has also been found to
improve coating hardness and recoata-bility in certain water-based coating
applications.
COGNIS LAUNCHES
DEHYDRAN 2293
Cognis has launched Dehydran 2293, a
new highly efficient defoamer that is
VOC-free for mid-range to high-end
paint formulations. Dehydran 2293 is a
universal and easy to handle defoamer
that is suitable for both architectural
and industrial paint and offer excellent
foam suppression, according to the company. Dehydran defoamers offer excellent long-term efficiency and compatibility with a range of high-gloss, highly pig-
mented paints and clear coatings.
ADVANCED POLYMER INTRODUCES
API-278 AND API-221F
Advanced Polymer, Inc. has introduced
two new products. API-278 stain blocking polish is a water-based hybrid resin
system that provides deep penetrating,
high gloss, stain resistant finish for new
densified concrete surfaces. It forms a
non-sacrificial surface that can be
buffed/burnished to a high gloss. It can
be used as the primary coating or can
serve as a protective layer under traditional concrete polish systems. API-221F
is a one component, water-based poly-mer/oligomer dispersion designed to protect the appearance and surface aesthetics of composite wood decking. It is
designed to crosslink at ambient temperature to form a topical polymeric film
with chemical anchors that have penetrated into the substrate.
BUHLER LAUNCHES OXYLINK
FOR ECO-FRIENDLY COATINGS
Buhler has introduced Oxylink, a new
functional additive for waterborne
paints and varnishes designed to
improve the characteristics of coatings. A
widely applicable additive based on
nanoparticle technology, Oxylink is particularly suitable for one-component formulations and it facilitates compliance
with future environmental requirements. Oxylink is a formulated additive
that improves MEK rub resistance,
blocking and humidity resistance and it
reduces drying time. Other important
parameters such as gloss are not affected. Oxylink contains tailor-made
nanoparticles that improve the coating
by direct interaction with the resin. It is
based on so-called dispersions of inorganic nanoparticles in water and
requires a dosage of one percent. The
additive may be used for clear as well as
pigmented formulations. CW
