PPG patents refractive coating
Patent No. U.S. 7,431,992 B2
PPG Industries has obtained a
patent for a coated substrate comprised of a substrate having an index
of refraction; an undercoating comprised of a graded layer comprised of
a mixture of at least two materials
selected from titania and at least one
of tin oxide, silica, and alumina
deposited on at least a portion of the
substrate, wherein the undercoating
consists of inorganic materials; and
an outermost functional coating having an index of refraction deposited
on at least a portion of the undercoating, wherein the functional coating is a single layer, photocatalytic
coating comprised of anatase crystalline titania, and wherein the
undercoating is configured such that
the coated substrate has a visible
reflectance of no greater than 25% as
measured from the coated side of the
substrate.
METHOD OF APPLYING REMOVABLE
COATING COMPOSITIONS
Patent No. U.S. 7,452,952 B2
Rohm and Haas Company has received
a patent for a method for applying a UV
cured, highly cross-linked coating as
one or more layers to a substrate and
subsequently removing all coating layers from a substrate comprised of the
steps of applying one or more layers of a
coating comprising a curable, removable multi-stage emulsion polymer;
wherein a shell of the multi-stage emulsion polymer is comprised of a carboxylic acid-containing emulsion polymer that is comprised of, as polymerized units, one or more comonomers
having carboxylic acid functionality,
and wherein the multistage emulsion
polymer further is comprised of 5-80%,
based on equivalents of acid groups,
polyvalent metal ion, curing the composition to form a highly crosslinked coat-
ing over the substrate by exposing the
composition to ultraviolet radiation;
and removing all coating layers from
the substrate by exposing the coating to
one or more chemical stripping agents.
VALSPAR PATENTS
UV-CURABLE COATING
Patent No. U.S. 7,435,453 B2
Valspar Sourcing has received a patent
for a method for finishing a veneer surface of a veneered wood product comprised of applying to the veneer surface
and UV curing a plurality of coating
layers, which method comprises the
steps of applying and cationically polymerizing at least one subsurface layer
comprising a UV curable cationically
polymerizable moiety and applying and
free radically polymerizing an outermost layer comprised of a free radically
polymerizable moiety, wherein a coating layer nearest the veneer surface
comprises a cationically polymerized
moiety or moiety polymerized via
cationic and free radical cure mechanisms, and wherein the finished veneer
surface exhibits less veneer checking
than a veneer finished only with free
radically polymerized coating layers.
BK GIULINI PATENTS
ANTICORROSIVE PIGMENTS
Patent No. U.S. 7,438,881 B2
BK Giulini GmbH has received a patent
for a method of manufacturing an anticorrosive pigment for a zinc-free coating
composition comprised of an anticorrosive pigment wherein the anticorrosive
pigment consists of aluminum
orthophosphate. The method is comprised of the steps of converting an aluminum salt with phosphoric acid or a
phosphate in the aqueous phase; and
precipitation of aluminum orthophosphate; filtration of aluminum
orthophosphate; and drying of aluminum orthophosphate; tempering the
orthophosphate at a temperature ranging from 500-800° C.; and grinding the
aluminum orthophosphate, in one step,
to a grain size of D50< 15 μm and
D90< 30 μm.
HENKEL PATENTS FLAME-RETARDANT COMPOSITION
Patent No. U.S. 7,456,235 B2
Henkel Corporation has received a
patent for a flame-retardant composition comprised of a flame retardant formulation consisting essentially of at
least one melamine compound, at least
one metal borate, and at least one alka-line-earth metal hydroxide; at least one
thermosetting resin; and an inorganic
filler material present in the composition in an amount ranging from about 1
to about 60 weight percent on a basis of
total weight of the composition, wherein the composition is substantially free
of compounds containing a halogen, an
antimony, or a phosphorus.
DURABLE TWO-PART
POLYURETHANE FLOOR COATING
Patent No. U.S. 7,452,935 B2
Rohm and Haas Company has received
a patent for a two-component floor
coating composition comprised of an
aqueous solution of a polyhydroxy-polyacrylate having acid groups; the
solution is comprised of an organic solvent; and an aliphatic polyisocyanate
which is soluble or dispersible in
water; wherein the polyhydroxypoly-acrylate is comprised of at least 30% of
monomer units derived from hydroxy-functional monomers and no more
than 10% of monomer units derived
from acid-functional monomers; and
wherein the acid groups in the polyhy-diroxypolyacrylate are neutralized
with a trialkanolamine, a C1-C4
unsubstituted alkyl dialkanolamine,
or a reaction product of a secondary
diamine with an alkylene oxide. CW
