BYK Additives & Instruments introduces a
renewable and biodegradable additive
At the Asia Pacific Coatings Show from
September 19 to 20 in Jakarta, BYK additives & Instruments will be presenting additive solutions for the coatings and
printing inks industry. The areas of focus
at this year’s show cover the themes:
Biotechnology in the coating industry;
carbon nanotubes for functional applications; nanotechnology for surfaces.
In recent years, the desire for more environmentally compatible and sustainably
produced additives has grown significantly.
BYK responded to these challenges with its
Greenability concept and presented, with
Ceraflour 1000, an additive with wax-like
properties that is suitable for all systems,
be they aqueous, radiation-curing, solvent-free or solventborne. Ceraflour 1000 provides efficient matting and also involves a
soft-touch effect the company said. In addition, systems in which Ceraflour1000 is
used exhibit a high degree of transparency
and improved scratch resistance.
BYK said the special feature here is that,
because the additive is based on renewable
raw materials, it represents an extremely interesting alternative to natural and synthetic
waxes. The latter, for instance, are based on
finite, petrochemical resources. Thanks to
biotechnology, the BYK additive is produced instead with the aid of bacteria.
Resinate launches R-162 resin
for OEM metal coatings
Resinate Materials Group, Inc., a provider
of resins and technology for the coatings,
adhesives, sealants and elastomers industries, has launched its first commercial
resin product line, R-162, to the public. R-
162 is a waterborne aromatic anionic
polyester polyurethane dispersion ideally
suited for coating metal substrates such as
aluminum, chrome and steel. R-162 provides corrosion resistance while also providing physical protection as a component
of a topcoat. In addition to being water-borne, R-162 resin is sourced from sustainable domestic suppliers which results
in a greener product and more stable
Prior to its commercial launch, Resinate
offered R-162 as a customized solution to
select clients seeking to improve their prod-
uct performance. According to Stephen
Hall, COO, “We initially developed R-162
to meet the needs of a handful of clients.
Later, we determined this resin had excel-
lent adhesion to a wide variety of metal
substrates and acted as a superior anticor-
rosive coating. This resin has broad appli-
cations for manufactured metal products.”
“The R-162 line of resins is also great
for manufacturers concerned with the en-
vironmental impact of their manufactur-
ing,” said Ben Wodicker, senior vice
president of business development. “This
resin is low VOC and is sourced from sus-
tainable domestic sources.”
“R-162 is a proven product with dy-
namic applications. We had a customer
that was sourcing its resin from China and
was having all sorts of performance and
quality problems,” said Daniel Seyer, vice
president of research and development.
“We were able to take their formulation
and adjust it to include our R-162 resin.
What resulted was a higher quality prod-
uct that consistently passed performance
tests but was also cheaper and greener be-
cause it was sourced domestically.”
Konica Minolta Sensing
releases CM-700d
spectrophotometer in Mexico
Konica Minolta Sensing Americas, Inc.
has recently released the CM-700d and
CM-600d spectrophotometers in Mexico
and throughout the Latin American market. The CM-700d and CM-600d are two
spectrophotometers that promise the same
high performance as previous Konica Minolta models in a more compact, lightweight and highly portable body. These
models are approximately 25% smaller in
volume than the previous models as well
as approximately 20% lighter. They employ a vertical body that is both easy to
hold and stable for greater ease of use. In
addition, each model come equipped with
Bluetooth wireless communication functions, enabling wireless transmission of
measurement data to a computer, mobile
printer, etc. This allows for greater maneuverability for measurement work on
location and on production lines without
the limitations of conventional communication cables. The CM-700d and CM-
600d are both equipped with a color TFT
LCD, which provides color patches to be
shown for each measurement. The CM-
700d can measure areas of 8mm and
3mm for greater flexibility of measurements. The CM-600d has a fixed measurement area of 8mm. Each model can
support a wide variety of samples including pastes, powders, and even wet surfaces. Various optional accessories are
also available to accommodate many different samples and customer applications.
Sunin Machine offers
dispersion mixer
Sunin’s Dispersion Mixer is a machine suitable for work in narrow spaces in laboratories, with a handy and practical design.
The double-purpose mixing cup can be
cooled and heated through a pipe connector according to different formulas. The innovative working structure can realize both
mixing and dispersion, and reduce material
loss and environmental pollution during the
transfer by the peripheral pump. It carries
out infinitive frequency control according
to the requirement to realize
the best effect.
This unit can be
used in bulk
production. The
elevation of
mixer can be divided into three
types; oil pressure-driven type, manually
operated type. It is widely applied to the
fluid materials, providing mixing, dissolving and dispersion. It features easy cleaning
and maintenance. It can either be connected
