Research and Markets has an- nounced the addition of the “Biocides in Paint - 2016” report
to their offering.
The global consumption of Biocides
in Paint has grown significantly over the
last decade. This performance reflects
not only end industry growth, regulatory
and technological changes but also the
growing use of Biocides as hygiene aids
in Coatings.
The market for Biocides in Paints will
continue to grow due to the switch from
solvent based to water based systems,
the replacement of traditional Biocides
based on chlorine and formaldehyde to
more expensive environmentally friendly
Biocides and the increased usage of hygienic coatings which contain surface active materials.
Specialty biocides include algaecides,
incan bactericides, insecticides and film
fungicides. North America is still the
dominant market but several factors are
combining to bring the North American
percentage down, according to Biocide
Information. Demand for Biocides is
greatest in Brazil, China, India and Russia.
As a result, all the main Biocides players
are investing significantly in those regions
as they offer growth opportunities as per
capita income rises and human health issues are accorded more importance.
This report provides in depth information on the market for biocide products
within Paint. It includes detailed market analyses and discussions of industry
trends. It assesses the impact of current
and emerging regulations on the biocides used. The report develops forecasts
for biocides from 2017 through 2022. It
discusses the efforts of biocide manufacturers and formulators in launching new
biocide formulations to meet changing
market requirements, for example build
up of resistance, lower costs, regulations.
The report also provides an over-
view for biocides for each of the major
geographical regions. It provides value
and volume data for different biocides.
In addition, the report provides a summary of each of the biocides that are
being used to control microbes within
consumer and industrial applications.
Industry influences on the biocides market are also discussed.
U.S. Decorative Laminates
Demand to Reach 11. 6
Billion Square Feet
Demand for decorative laminates in the
US is forecast to increase 2.5 percent per
year to 11. 6 billion square feet in 2020,
valued at $6.8 billion. Growth in domestic manufacturing of cabinets, wall panels,
and furniture that use engineered wood
will provide opportunities for decorative
laminates. Advances in building construction activity and greater credit availability are driving demand for such building
components and related products, while
low domestic energy costs and increasing
wages in traditionally low wage countries
are allowing US-manufactured goods to
be more cost-competitive with imports.
These and other trends are presented in
Decorative Laminates, a new study from
The Freedonia Group, a Cleveland-based
industry research firm.
Cabinets and furniture were the two
largest markets for laminates in 2015,
together accounting for nearly half of
demand. Through 2020, the cabinet
market is projected to post the more
rapid gains. “Increases in the number of
new homes built through 2020 will provide opportunities, since many of these
new homes will include stock cabinets,
which are often made using saturated
paper and other low-pressure laminates
on an engineered wood substrate,” notes
analyst Pamela Safarek.
Advances for low-pressure laminates
will be driven by their significant use
in the large cabinets and store fixtures
markets, where the cost advantages of
these products outweigh the durability
benefits of higher priced high-pressure
laminates. Low-pressure laminates,
which account for more than 80 percent
of the market, will benefit from strong
growth in the production of cabinets and
will post the fastest average annual gains
through 2020.
Sales of high-pressure laminates will
continue to depend on their advanced
performance characteristics, such as long-term durability and greater resistance to
scratches. In particular, high-pressure
laminates will continue to find use in applications where durability is required, in
addition to high gloss. Greater awareness
of compact laminates’ stability and design flexibility over standard varieties of
high-pressure laminates will provide opportunities for compact laminate in store
fixtures and other commercial applications such as partitions in bathrooms,
locker rooms, and dressing rooms.
Antimicrobial Coatings
Market Will Witness
Enhanced Demand In
Healthcare Device Coating
Applications
The antimicrobial coatings market is
anticipated to garner $4,520 million by
2020. Grand View Research, Inc. identi-
fies demand for healthcare device coat-
ings to remain the most significant market
propeller for the forecast period (2014 to
2020). Moreover, escalating penetration
of superior internal air products, primar-
ily in the U.S., will favor the market.
Antimicrobial coatings find applica-
tions in ‘surface protection.’ They protect
surfaces from microbes like bacteria, fun-
gi, parasites, germs, etc. They were basi-
cally launched to prevent the growth of
microbes and dirt on surfaces they were
used on. But human health apprehensions
concerning harmful microbes have as-
sisted antimicrobial applications to cover
both surfaces and humans.
Demand for HVAC systems should
also boost market demand. Conversely,
health apprehensions in regards to silver
