LH-8000 exhibits advanced adhesive
properties that allow it to bond to dissimilar materials, such as polyamides,
polyethylenes and metals The adhesive
functionality of Fluon LH-8000 is ideal
for producing multilayer structures in a
one-step process without surface treatment and by often eliminating the need
for a tie layer.
LH-8000 has chemical resistance
and electrical and non-stick properties
equivalent to conventional ETFE resins.
However, it is an ultra-low-melting resin
that is cost-effective for applications such
as chemical bags, hot water hoses, rubber
hose mandrels, anti-stick conveyor belts,
multilayer monofilament, interlayer insulation film for electronic substrates and
tubes that convey harsh materials in the
chemical, plastics, oil and gas, building
and paint industries.
“Processors and molders using Fluon
LH-8000 can reduce their initial investment because a fluoropolymer layer can
be co-extruded with conventional engineering plastics, like HDPE and PA,
without the need for special corrosion-resistant equipment,” said AGC product
and development engineer Katie Sprick.
Fluon LH-8000 has an ultra-low
melting point of 180 °C to 190 °C, the
lowest of all of AGC’s AH series resins. It
also offers the widest processing temperature range between melting point and
onset of degradation (350 °C) among
all of AGC’s Fluon ETFE products. This
large processing temperature window
minimizes any possible material decomposition. In addition, the corrosive off-gas levels at melt processing of Fluon
LH-8000 are very low, minimizing damage to the molding equipment.
BASF Launches Deaerator
for 100% Solids Coating
Systems
BASF recently launched Efka PB 2744, a
defoamer for fast and effective deaeration
of 100% solids coating systems. It provides excellent efficiency, long-term persistency and effectiveness against macro
and micro foam, the company reported.
It also enhances leveling and surface
smoothness while improving stability under sheer stress and storage conditions.
Efka PB 2744 is especially designed for
industrial flooring formulations which
have to comply with latest construction
norms as it is very low in VOC and does
not have any hazard labeling.
Efka PB 2744 demonstrates outstanding performance in 2-Pack PUR systems
for flooring applications as well as excellent results in customer specific epoxy
flooring formulations. Further application areas include ultra-high solids industrial applications and UV applications.
Union Process Develops
New Tank Construction
Featuring a Replaceable Bar
Grid, Ball Valve
Union Process has developed a new optional tank design that features a removable bar grid and ball valve for its 01 and
HD01 Lab Attritor models.
This feature (replaceable bar grids
and a removable ball valve located under
the tank) now makes it much easier for
slurry to be discharged in a fashion similar to how it is handled in the company’s
larger S1 series laboratory mills. The
tanks are available in both the 750cc
and 1400cc sizes.
The tanks are available in stainless
steel or Tefzel-coated for metal-free applications. These water-jacketed, one-piece
construction tanks will fit on all existing
01 and HD01 frames and are compatible
with shafts, arms, and covers from those
series of mills.
Ashland Launches New
Matte Coating for Flexible
Packaging
Ashland Inc. has developed Purekote
23589, a coating that can be used safely in
food packaging applications regulated by
the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The water-based coating delivers a superior matte appearance and velvety feel to
paper and plastic bags, pouches, lidding
films, foil bags and sachets. Purekote
23589 coating is safe for use with any
food and does not have temperature limitations. Purekote coating is print receptive and can be used with film, foil and
numerous other substrates. It can be applied via gravure or flexographic process
with an enclosed-chamber doctor blade.
Converters and brand owners
will appreciate the design flexibility of Purekote 23589 coating compared to using films with
soft-touch properties built into them.
Purekote can be pattern applied to create
packaging with both matte sections and
clear “windows,” that allow consumers
to see the product inside. This flexibility
in application also makes Purekote suited
for use on pressure-sensitive labels, boxes
and many other non-food applications.
Purekote 23589 is a polyurethane dispersion in liquid form. As a topcoat it delivers 60° gloss in the 0.5 to 4 range. It is
well suited for use with Nylon, PET, OPP,
vinyl and other plastic film substrates.
Emerald Specialties Group
Introduces Masil Ultra
SL1000 Slip-Mar Additive
Emerald Specialties Group, a business
group of Emerald Performance Materials,
has launched new Masil Ultra SL1000,
a water-based, zero-VOC additive designed to improve slip and mar resistance in waterborne coatings for food
packaging. The enhanced additive is the
first to be introduced as part of the new
“Ultra” extension of the company’s line
of Masilsilicone additives, a designation
indicating premium performance characteristics that have been tailored and optimized for specific end-use needs.
“With the new Masil Ultra platform, we are creating a springboard for
unique chemistries we are developing to
provide an ideal blend of characteristics
for very particular industry needs,” said
James Davis, vice president of Emerald
Specialties Group.
Masil Ultra SL1000 is cleared under
a wide variety of U.S. FDA 21 CFR citations for indirect food contact, including
many that are not typically applicable to
other available slip-mar additives, such as
21 CFR 175.300. As a result, manufacturers can safely incorporate the additive
into inks and varnishes requiring these
approvals with assurance that Masil
Ultra SL1000 will not change the regulatory status of their product. Masil Ultra
SL1000 is also APEO-free and optimized
to maintain gloss and prevent haziness,
the company stated. CW
