organize the premiere Mur Art
festival of murals, holding a contest for artists to submit ideas
for the best mural showing the
heritage, traditions or legends related to
the Cieszyn area.
The Colorful Communities project
brought together more than 20 PPG volunteers from the local PPG industrial
coatings plant, who spent two days revitalizing an old wall located in the city
center by creating a bright, colorful mural showing the most recognizable buildings of Cieszyn – the watch tower and
the castle. On the building next to this
wall, contest-winning artist Mikołaj Rejs
created a mural based on the Legend of
Three Brothers, which is the story of the
founding of the city.
“Together with the city of Cieszyn,
PPG is working to beautify and add color
to areas visited by many residents and
tourists,” said Waldemar Gołębiewski,
PPG plant manager at the Cieszyn in-
dustrial coatings facility. “The idea of a
festival of murals seemed like a perfect
opportunity to both show that PPG is a
responsible partner of the local commu-
nity and brighten the city with our du-
rable and colorful products.”
The Colorful Communities program
is PPG’s signature initiative for commu-
nity engagement efforts, with the aim
to protect and beautify the neighbor-
hoods where PPG operates around the
world. The program increases PPG’s
commitment to invest in communities
by adding $10 million to support efforts
made during a 10-year period. It sup-
ports projects that transform community
assets, providing PPG volunteers and do-
nated PPG products. PPG completed 11
Colorful Communities projects in 2015,
and it expects to complete more than 30
this year.
PPG Completes Second
COLORFUL COMMUNITIES
Project in San Juan del Río,
Mexico
PPG announced the completion of its
second COLORFUL COMMUNITIES
project in San Juan del Río, Querétaro,
Mexico, this time revitalizing the park,
playground and traffic school on the
grounds of the Headquarters of Crime
Prevention and Citizen Participation in
the La Floresta neighborhood. The global
Colorful Communities program provides
PPG volunteers and products along with
financial contributions to bring color and
vitality to communities where the company operates, such as San Juan del Río,
where PPG has a coatings plant and its
Mexico headquarters office.
The PPG project brought together
about 100 volunteers, who worked for
three days to revitalize the park, playground and traffic school. PPG provided
more than $11,000 (about 200,000 pesos), including donated paints and supplies from the COMEX brand – PPG’s
architectural coatings brand in Mexico –
to support the project, which in addition
to painting included repairs to structures
and systems along with maintenance of
bicycles and tricycles at the site.
The Colorful Communities proj-
ect shows PPG’s support for the
Headquarters of Crime Prevention and
Citizen Participation’s mission, to encour-
age the active and responsible participa-
tion of local residents in improving their
security through promoting a culture of
prevention, by making the public area
brighter and safer. It also promoted the
recreational use of the site, with activities
such as dance lessons and fitness classes
hosted by PPG during the weekend. The
revitalization effort will benefit about
12,000 local residents who use the area.
“As part of our corporate philosophy,
PPG seeks to fill the communities where
we operate with color and to support
neighborhood organizations and sites
that are important to our employees,”
said Luis Fernandez, PPG technical director, industrial coatings, Latin America
- North. “We hope that by revitalizing
these facilities, we will help to promote
citizen participation and strengthen the
values and bonds of children, youth and
adults in San Juan del Rio.”
