more than $15,800. Through its
relationship with Team Penske,
PPG invited NASCAR Sprint
Cup Series Driver Joey Logano
to join the walk.
The Red Bucket Brigade is made up
of SCC volunteers who pass red buckets through the stands and collect contributions from racing fans at both the
July and September Sunday NASCAR
events at the speedway. According to
LaPrade, more than $81,000 has been
raised through these events since PPG
got involved.
“This is quite an honor,” Patenaude
said. “The work SCC does is so impor-
tant to the kids it reaches and to our
communities. We view our ongoing
commitment to SCC as something that
contributes significantly to the well-
being of children, that what we do can
make a difference. We are touched that
the SCC has recognized us this way. We
appreciated being named Sponsor of the
Year, but it is second to the important
work that SCC does.”
SCC was founded in 1982 by
Bruton Smith, chairman of Speedway
Motorsports Inc. (SMI) and Sonic
Automotive, to honor his son, Bruton
Cameron Smith, who died at a young age.
The elder Smith was passionate about
wanting to help children in need and
established SCC to support charities in
communities around his SMI racetracks.
Since its inception, SCC has funded thou-
sands of organizations that help children
lead productive lives.

Year 2017, Gallant Gray
Axalta Coating Systems announced its
Automotive Color of the Year 2017 –
Gallant Gray. This luxurious color is
enhanced by blue and silver flakes that
produce a unique sparkle effect and
dark undertones that enrich the finish, adding sophistication. A year-long
Color of the Year celebration will commence with a variety of events during
the 2017 North American International
Auto Show (NAIAS) Preview Days in
Detroit including a video reveal at the
EyesOn Design awards program on
January 10, 2017. The color will also
be prominently featured at the Axalta-sponsored Charity Preview on January

Gallant Gray as the Automotive Color of
the Year. A high percentage of the market is interested in a neutral palette and
adding slight hints of hues can add life
to these colors. Gallant Gray is designed
to look spectacular on any size vehicle.
The complex color is dark in value with
various sparkling flakes that add depth
and color.
“At Axalta, we monitor automotive
trends and forecast how color tastes are
changing in the automotive market,” said
Nancy Lockhart – Axalta Global Color
Marketing Manager. “We are pleased to
partner with automakers by using our
coatings to give their vehicles beauty and
character, and we’re confident customers
will appreciate Gallant Gray. With hints
of blue and green, it exemplifies moder-
nity and elegance. Taking everything into
account, we think Gallant Gray is the
new silver.”
Axalta’s recently released 2016

trends by geography, showed a rise in
the popularity of gray shades around
the world. Neutral colors have domi-
nated the market over the last ten

Dunn-Edwards Announces 2017 Color of the Year
Dunn-Edwards Paints has announced its 2017 Color of the Year –Honey Glow – a
warm, golden yellow with brown undertones. “This is a great color to make a bold
statement in a room,” said Sara McLean, color expert for Dunn-Edwards. “Whether
it’s applied to every wall or featured in accessories, the cheerful spirit that radiates
from this color will re-energize any room.”
Ten percent of sales of paint tinted in Honey Glow will go to HoneyLove.org, a
nonprofit organization that encourages urban beekeeping and educates people
about making their garden bee friendly by avoiding pesticides, providing water and
shelter, and adding pollinator-friendly plants.
McLean selected Honey Glow after extensive research on color trends in everything from pop culture and fashion to world events and local street culture. “Honey
Glow embodies the trend toward the warming of all colors – from neutrals to nonneutrals,” she explained.
She suggests painting an accent wall, paired with white or gray, and bring in pillows, throws and other accessories in a Honey Glow color. “People who love to travel
and collect artifacts from around the world will be attracted to this global color. It can
pretty much match with everything from earthy, neutral palettes or colors like chocolate, red, gray, green and orange,” she said.
