LANXESS’s Rhein Chemie Additives (ADD) business unit offers organic Macrolex Gran
colorants for the brilliant coloring of
amorphous and semicrystalline plastics.
Thanks to their microgranule form, the
colorants compare extremely favorably
with powders and compact granules
owing to their excellent dispersion and
processing properties and safe handling,
according to the company.
Macrolex microgranules consist
of hollow spheres that can be easily
crushed, which means they can be quickly, evenly and completely distributed and
incorporated into the plastic. The excellent processability of the product is due
to the fact that the hollow spheres comprise particularly small primary particles
of between around two and ten micrometers depending on the color. The good
free-flowing properties of the 0.3-mil-
limeter spheres make precise metering
easier and prevent clumping in the mixing process. The four times higher bulk
density compared with powder pays
dividends in processing, transport and
storage alike.
In addition, the granules make an
important contribution to occupational
safety and environmental protection.
Containers can be completely emptied,
for example. Dust development in the
processing of Macrolex Gran is much
less than with powders. This means there
is a considerably reduced risk of dust
explosion, and expenses for protective
measures and facility cleaning can be
considerably reduced.

Royal Dragon Gold
BASF has added Lumina Royal Dragon
Gold effect pigment to the Lumina Royal
product family.
The new Lumina Royal Dragon Gold
EH 0908 is a brilliant green shade gold
mica effect pigment that offers the high-
est lightness and strongest sparkle in
styling for yellows and greens. It extends
the color space potential of high chroma
shades for packaging, consumer electron-
ics, household appliances, sporting goods
and other specialty applications.
Thanks to its unique coloristic
properties, the pigment enables exploring new boundaries of the colors
and effects space for a wide range of
colored plastics applications and allows a greater formulation flexibility
to customers. It additionally enables
approaching brilliance of coatings
finishes when applied in a high gloss
polymer molding.
Lumina Royal Dragon Gold joins five
previously launched highly chromatic
Lumina Royal pigments including Aqua,
Blue, Indigo, Magenta and Copper that
are being widely adopted.

Shaft Mixers
Ross has announced that its Dual-Shaft
Mixers, suitable for mixing 50-, 100-
and 200-gallon batches, are now available from stock. The Models CDA- 50,
CDA-100 and CDA-200 are equipped
with two independently-driven, vari-able-speed agitators: a high speed disperser and a two-wing anchor. Working
in combination, both agitators provide
adjustable shear and efficient turnover
of low to high viscosity materials including pastes, gels, suspensions, slurries and
fine dispersions up to several hundred
thousand centipoise.
The in-stock CDA models come standard with an air/oil hydraulic lift, vacuum
capability, jacketed mix vessel, stainless
steel wetted parts and inverter-duty motors. Options such as rotor/stator assembly in lieu of the disperser, sidewall and
bottom scrapers on the anchor agitator,
thermoprobe, spray balls, pneumatic discharge valve and pre-wired controls can
be supplied with little impact to delivery

Metallic Bright Red with candy effect for WaterBase Series 900+. Bright
red cars with a candy effect finish can
now be easily repaired to the highest
standard.
According to the company, no system in the market has been able to easily repair bright red effect colors. It’s
been said that refinishers would rather not work with a candy effect finish. Now, thanks to the innovation of
their color mixing laboratory, DeBeer
Refinish has made it possible for every
car refinisher to easily repair this challenging car color category to the highest standard.
Using a simple 3-layer system, paint
technicians can achieve the finest results:
a deep, metallic bright red color that is
unmottled and completely matches the
car’s original color.
The first layer is a colored effect metallic undercoat that instantly provides
the desired effect in a red that matches
the car’s original color. The next layer is
an easy to apply, slightly tinted, transparent basecoat that provides extra
depth and color precision. The finishing
layer is a 100 percent transparent clear
coat, which ensures a glossy result with
long-term protection.
The company reported that worldwide
patents have been requested both for the
film build used to achieve the candy color
effect and for the repair method used to
apply this film build.
DeBeer Refinish Metallic Bright Red
can be applied to a range of bright red
metallic cars including cars manufactured
by Renault, Alfa Romeo, Mazda, Opel,
Ford and Peugeot. It is available in 1 liter (WaterBase Series 900+) and 3. 5 liter
