In 2000, Elementis plc joined the former businesses of Rheox (then the innovative market leader in rheological additives with products such as BENTONE®, BENTONE GEL®, THIXCIN®, THIXATROL®, M-P-A®, RHEOLATE® and Daniel Products into one entity, resulting in the creation of Elementis Specialties.

Company Description

Elementis Specialties provides high value functional additives to the architectural and industrial coatings, adhesive, sealants, and inks. These additives improve the flow characteristics and performance of our customers’ products or production processes.

We offer a comprehensive product portfolio that includes rheology modifiers for aqueous and solvent systems, defoamers, dispersing and wetting agents, colorants, adhesion promoters, waxes and surface active additives.

Our major products are BENTONE® organoclays, RHEOLATE® rheological additives, THIXATROL® rheology additives, M-P-A® anti-settling agents, DAPRO® specialty additives, NUOSPERSE® wetting and dispersing agents, NALZIN® corrosion and rust inhibitors, SLIP-AYD® waxes and slip additives and TINT-AYD® colorants. These enhance the feel, flow and finish of everyday products including surface coatings, adhesives and sealants, and construction products.

Technologies

RHEOLATE® HX products (6008, 6010, & 6050) are a series of ICI builders that are typically 25 to 50% more efficient than standard rheology modifiers. “Less” is really “more” with these thickeners, as they improve the application properties with uniform film build and improved hiding while also offering improved color properties and block resistance. All of the products are zero VOC and APEO free and have been designed to work across the latest zero VOC latex systems.

RHEOLATE CVS® 15 is the next generation mid-shear NiSAT for low VOC decorative paints. RHEOLATE CVS 15 is highly efficient compared to typical thickeners currently in the market and offers improved viscosity stability after tinting.

RHEOLATE® 465 is a strongly hydrophobically modified alkali swellable acrylic thickener which has both ionic and associative thickening mechanisms. It provides both mid and high shear rate viscosity with balanced performance for superior packaging and application properties. RHEOLATE® 465 is especially suitable for waterborne architectural high PVC, high gloss and semi-gloss architectural paints and industrial coatings.

NUOSPERSE FX® 665 is a hydrphobic copolymer dispersants with outstanding water resistance for waterbased industrial and high performance decorative paints. NUOSPERSE FX® 665 is highly efficient and offers excellent compatibility with most binder systems and RHEOLATE® Thickeners.

NUOSPERSE FX® 631 is a general purpose copolymer dispersant for coatings and inorganic pigment dispersions. This product is highly efficient and presents excellent application and superior color properties.
