were evaluated in 2016.
The certification, which is
separated into two categories,
Ford Areas and Partners Companies,
considers the analysis of a monthly compliance indicator against the demands
of Ford’s Environmental Management
Scoring System. Among the items
scored are Environmental Initiatives
Implemented in the Area, Environmental
Training and Participation in Ford’s
Audits. To establish the ranking, a number of factors were evaluated including
attendance, presence in periodic meetings, compliance with deadlines, results
of audits and presentation of environmental initiatives.
“We are very pleased that Axalta has
been selected to receive this certification,”
said Reginaldo Saloio, Light Vehicle OEM
& APC business manager. “This drives us
to continue to innovate and improve our
processes and programs, while measur-
ing our performance across operations,
environment, and safety to ensure we are
responding to the market needs and ex-
ceeding our customers’ expectations.”
“It is an honor to receive this certification because it affirms Axalta’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing
practices. We manage our facilities across
the globe with a focus on environmental
stewardship, as well as product and process safety,” added David Zwier, Axalta’s
Global Account Director for Ford Motor
Company. “It’s rewarding to receive this
recognition that reflects not only the
qualities of our products, but also the
processes and support we put in place to
better serve our customers.”
PPG Acquires Remaining
Interest in IVC Joint
Venture in Asia
PPG has announced that it has purchased the remaining 50 percent ownership interest in its Asian joint venture
comprising IVC (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd
and IVC-OPS (Singapore) Pte. Ltd.
from its joint-venture partner, Omni-Plus System Pte. Ltd. Financial terms
were not disclosed.
The IVC joint venture was formed in
2008 and principally supplies industrial
coatings to the appliance and electronics-materials segments. In 2016, it had sales
of less than $10 million as an equity affiliate of PPG.
Included in PPG’s acquisition of the
remaining 50 percent ownership interest in the IVC joint venture (including
both the Malaysia and Singapore entities) are all machinery and equipment,
property leases, working capital, customer list and relationships, and distribution and territorial rights in Asia.
Additionally, all joint-venture employees, of whom there are fewer than 10,
will become PPG employees.
“This transaction is an important follow-up to PPG’s 2015 acquisition of IVC
Industrial Coatings, Inc., which is now
fully integrated into our industrial coatings business,” said Shelley Bausch, PPG
Avant-garde Color Solutions by PPG Used to Coat Chevrolet All-purpose Sports Concept Car
The Chevrolet FNR-X, the first all-purpose sports concept vehicle from SAIC General Motors, made its world premiere at
Auto Shanghai 2017. Its stylized and sophisticated appearance
impressed the audience, including brilliant metallic color care of
the PPG automotive original equipment manufacturer (OEM)
color styling team.
Designed by SAIC General Motors experts at the Pan Asia
Technical Automotive Center (PATAC), the FNR-X combines the
science and imagination of the Chevrolet brand while building
on previous models’ high-performance and versatility. To showcase the off-road capability and performance of the FNR-X, PATAC designers and PPG color experts developed the “rhenium
silver” color that gives the car a futuristic, outer-space look.
PPG’s silver coating complements Chevrolet’s golden bowtie
emblem and mimics the look of high-gloss liquid metal, with a
neutral color and silky pearl essence displaying metallic shades
that differ based on viewing perspective and light. The rhenium
silver color originates from PPG’s “Biocentric” color-story trend
palette, a theme of PPG’s “Kulture” collection for 2020 automotive models. The palette’s unrestrained imagination and creative
designs match the cutting-edge technologies of the FNR-X.
“SAIC General Motors is one of PPG automotive coatings’
most important OEM customers,” said David Cui, PPG prod-
uct manager and market development director, automotive
coatings, Asia Pacific. “We are pleased to team with them to
develop exciting new colors. Collaboration helps us better un-
derstand our clients’ needs while broadening our knowledge
of color styling and enhancing our research and development
capabilities and service quality.”
Development of the rhenium silver color is based on PPG’s
“sterling silver” color platform and the company’s leading auto-
motive refinish technology. After more than 10 years of develop-
ment by PPG’s Chinese technical research team for automotive
OEM coatings, the sterling silver platform, which is manufac-
tured through an eco-friendly process that minimizes harmful
emissions, partially replaces electroplating with coatings that
present outstanding metallic effects and flake orientation.
