Lubrizol Unveils Solsperse M Series of
Hyperdispersants for Industrial Coatings
The Lubrizol Corporation has launched
the Solsperse M Series, a family of hyperdispersants for multimedia colorants.
The Solsperse M Series is designed to
deliver broad compatibility to colorants
for solventborne industrial coatings. The
Solsperse M Series enables formulators to
quickly select the ideal hyperdispersant
for their unique industrial colorant requirements optimizing compatibility, efficiency, regulatory compliance and overall
quality, according to the company. The
Solsperse M Series requires less grinding resin in the millbase, thereby reducing viscosity and enabling even higher
pigment loading in the colorant, which,
in turn, allows better mill utilization for
faster dispersion and increased production volumes. Some Solsperse M Series
options completely eliminate the need for
grinding resins, resulting in even further
reduction of millbase viscosity, the company reported.
Solsperse M Series hyperdispersants
are designed for formulation of universal colorants with the broadest range of
compatibility allowing rationalization of
tinter inventories. A reduction in additive
inventories is also possible. By reducing
inventories and streamlining dispersion
processing, the Solsperse M Series enables
significant cost savings in labor and materials. Solsperse M Series hyperdispersants
are available for dispersion of organic
and inorganic pigments in resin-free and
resin-containing solvent borne colorants,
suitable for tinting a wide variety of industrial coatings.
UL-rated Stainless Steel
Control Panels from Ross
SysCon
Ross SysCon, a worldwide supplier of
process control and automation systems,
builds UL-rated stainless steel control
panels of virtually any size or complexity.
Ross SysCon offers the single axis
control system in a NEMA-4X stainless
steel enclosure for soft start and variable
speed control of a Ross Ribbon Blender.
A 4” color touch screen is mounted on
the panel door for control and viewing
of agitator speed,
load, cycle time
and forward/reverse
agitator direction. A
Variable frequency
drive, emergency
stop button, fused rotary disconnect
switch, branch circuit protection, interlocking safety circuitry and fan shrouds
are included as well. This UL-rated panel
is built to conform to NFPA 79 standards.
Ross SysCon is one of five U.S. manufacturing facilities under the Ross group
of companies. Ross, a manufacturer of
mixing, blending, drying and dispersion
equipment, also operates three international plants in China and India.
Solvay Novecare Introduces
Fentamine Fatty and
Fentacare Specialty Amines
Solvay Novecare has added a broad portfolio of fatty and specialty amines to enhance its existing catalog of paint and
coatings additives.
The expanded offering includes two
additional product ranges - Fentamine
fatty amines and Fentacare specialty
amines. Amines are used in the coatings
industry as polyurethane extenders and
catalysts, epoxy curing agents, dispersing
agents for pigments, neutralizing agents
and as a resin solubilizer in waterborne
coatings.
Eastman Introduces a
Line of Low Volatile Pure
Monomer Resins
Eastman Chemical Company has introduced a new line of low volatile pure
monomer resins including: Kristalex
5140LV, Kristalex 3115LV, Kristalex
3100LV and Plastolyn 290LV.
The new low volatile pure monomer
resin brands will continue to offer the
great performance, excellent color, and
stability of Eastman’s well-known pure
monomer product line while offering
lower levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), the company reported.
Eastman pure monomer resins have been
used for many years to balance cohesion,
melt viscosity and mechanical properties of various polymers. While the new
low volatile pure monomer resins have
the same performance as traditional
Eastman pure monomer resins, they also
offer the assurance of a certified, lower
volatility pure monomer resin with lower residual monomer.
Sliding Friction Testing
From Brookfield
Engineering
Brookfield Engineering has introduced
the TA-SFJ Sliding Friction Jig which
measures the coefficient of friction (COF)
between two materials by sliding them
against each other. One material is affixed
to the base plate of the test fixture while
the other material is wrapped around a
weight which is then pulled across the
first material at constant speed. The test
apparatus utilizes the Brookfield CT3
Tester to pull the weight in a horizontal
direction so that the sliding friction between the two materials is measured accurately over a distance that is sufficient
to verify steady state behavior.
The TA-SFJ Sliding Friction Jig is used
to measure tactile qualities like smoothness, slipperiness or stickiness. It is ideal
for a wide variety of applications including lubricants and grease, personal care
products and many types of surfaces and
coatings. The Brookfield CT3 Tester is the
best value in a stand-alone instrument for
physical testing, according to the company. It combines simplicity of operation
with expanded test method capability and
operates in both compression and tension
modes. TexturePro CT software enables
the operator to automate their test procedures and generate valuable analytical
data. CW
