APV Engineered Coatings has launched a new line of primer and topcoat systems under the
NeverFade brand name for restoration of
architectural metal structures such as wall
panels, window and door frames, roofs,
railings, overhangs and decorative features.
Available in water-based formulations with
Kynar Aquatec and solvent-based formulations with Kynar PVDF, the new NeverFade
Façade Restoration coatings are ideal for
use with carbon steel, stainless steel, bare
aluminum and anodized aluminum.
These robust coating systems resist UV
degradation, abrasion, corrosion, mold
growth, dirt and staining. They resist
chalking and maintain their color (even
with dark colors and earth tones) so well
that APV offers a 15-year warranty for
fade performance. The warranty covers
replacement product as well as labor costs.
The product line’s water-based metal
restoration coatings are formulated with
Kynar Aquatec emulsion from Arkema.
It meets SCAQMD Rule 1113 VOC limits in Southern California for industrial
maintenance coatings, with only 40-100
grams/liter of VOCs, depending on color. The coating can be used with APV’s
complementary W-1650 bonding primer
for previously coated fluoropolymer
surfaces, such as Kynar 500 resin-based
coatings, which demonstrates excellent
adhesion. The primer contains 50 grams/
liter of VOCs, meeting SCAQMC Rule
1113 VOC limits for Southern California
of 100 grams/liter of VOCs. The water-based topcoat also can be used with
APV’s W-1500 universal primer and
APV’s two component corrosion-resistant epoxy primer. This product contains
exempt solvents to meet SCAQMC Rule
1113 VOC limits.
The solvent-based metal restoration
coatings are formulated with Kynar
ADS II resin from Arkema. It dries in
10-15 minutes and sets up and hardens
quickly. The coating can be used with
APV’s complementary two component
corrosion-resistant epoxy primer, a ro-
bust primer that provides an exceptional
bond to metal and concrete surfaces.
All NeverFade Façade Restoration formulas are custom color-matched to order.
They are available in flat, eggshell, and
semi-gloss sheens. The coatings are ready
to use as supplied and come in 1-gallon
cans, 5-gallon pails and 55-gallon drums.
They can be applied with a brush, roller
or conventional spray equipment.
Hempel’s Advanced ‘Splash
Zone’ Coatings Designed
for Longer Service Life,
Reduced Maintenance
In response to customer demands,
Hempel has launched two new advanced
coatings specifically developed to protect
the vulnerable “splash zone” areas of offshore structures.
The “splash zone” is the area of an
offshore asset (oil & gas platform or
wind turbine, for example) that is just
above the waterline and so suffers from
the dual impact of atmospheric and im-mersion-type corrosion; as well as physical damage such as abrasion and impact,
especially in areas around boat landings.
Launched in Europe, Hempadur
Multistrength 35840 and 35842 are
Hempel’s new coatings that will revolutionize the way the “splash zone”
is protected. Unlike conventional
coatings, these two products are almost solvent-free and contain a much
higher percentage of reactive diluents
instead of conventional solvents to
create superior cross-linking properties (a chemical reaction that helps
harden the coating). This significantly
enhances their resistance to corrosion.
In addition, the coatings are reinforced
with overlapping glass flakes to fur-
ther enhance their water resistance
and strengthen them against physi-
cal impact. Their high solids ratio (99
percent) and low VOC (volatile or-
ganic compound) content makes them
significantly kinder to the environment
than conventional coatings.
Thinning a coating often increases the
potential for solvent entrapment and can
result in poor appearance and sagging. To
avoid this common problem, Hempadur
Multistrength is available in two variations – 35840 and 35842 – giving customers a choice of splash zone products
that offer identical performance but at
different film thicknesses.
Cortec Introduces
EcoCorr Water-Based Rust
Preventative
Cortec has developed a new water-based
rust preventative (RP) that reduces applied
cost by 40 percent compared to a bestsell-ing oil-based RP. According to Cortec, this
innovation offers excellent corrosion protection while reducing carbon footprint
and cutting common labor or disposal
costs associated with traditional RPs.
EcoCorr Water-Based Rust
Preventative powered by Nano VpCI is a
complete replacement for oil-based RPs
used for temporary indoor protection
of equipment and components. It is convenient to use and easy to clean. When
applied to the metal surface by dipping,
brushing, or spraying, EcoCorr forms a
clear dry film that is suitable for robotic
assembly of precision machined components. In most cases, the dry film of
EcoCorr does not interfere with use and
does not need to be removed, but this can
be easily done when required. EcoCorr
Water-Based RP is useful for temporary
storage of metal parts.CW
