PPG Publishes Data
Sheet on UL Recognized
Component Coating
Systems
PPG’s industrial coatings business has
published three data sheets documenting
PPG coating systems recognized under
the Component Recognition Program of
Underwriters Laboratories (UL) for the
UL 1332 Standard for Organic Coatings
for Steel Enclosures for Outdoor
Use Electrical Equipment (DTOV2).
Electrical equipment manufacturers that
coat metal substrates used in the assembly of transformers, substations, electrical enclosures, switchgear and lighting
commonly require that coating systems
they specify meet the requirements in
Standard UL 1332.
The three data sheets cover liquid,
powder and electrocoat (e-coat) products individually and list brands, resin
chemistries and coating systems for
each technology that are UL Recognized
Components under Standard UL 1332.
The data sheets also detail the pretreatment systems and substrates for which
the recognition is valid.
The UL 1332 standard is a set of requirements developed to determine if a
system composed of a metallic substrate
pretreated and finished with an organic
coating system can achieve corrosion
resistance equal to that provided by uncoated, hot-dipped, mill-galvanized G90
metal. Testing includes 600 hours of
neutral salt spray and 1,200 hours of
carbon-dioxide/sulfur-dioxide exposure
on multiple scribed and unscribed panels
finished with the tested coating applied in
varying thicknesses.
PPG Launches App for
Aerospace Products and
Services
A new mobile app from PPG’s aerospace
business provides access to information
about its products and services as well
as trade show participation. The PPG
Aerospace app is a one-stop guide to
the business’s transparencies, coatings,
sealants, packaging and application sys-
tems, transparent armor, and chemical-
management services, with links to the
aerospace website and online technical
data and material safety data sheets. It
includes a map of PPG’s global aero-
space sites with contact details for prod-
uct and purchasing information, a form
to submit questions and a value listing
describing how PPG products provide
innovative solutions. CW
Axalta Coating Systems Celebrates 60 Years in Canada
Axalta Coating Systems recently celebrated 60 years of
producing innovative coatings at its Ajax, Ontario facility. Employees gathered at
the Hilton Garden Inn, Ajax
to celebrate both Axalta’s
60th year of operations in
Ajax and its 150th business
anniversary.
Axalta has a long history
in Canada that dates back to
1956 when the Ajax manufacturing plant opened its doors.
It has produced a variety of
products over the years including acrylic lacquer paints,
basecoat and clearcoat technologies and in 2000 was
identified as a corporate development and manufacturing flagship for the “paint on plastics” that is used with
many automotive components. More recently, due to increased production volumes,
Ajax added a new distribution centre to the campus.
Today, products are shipped from Ajax to customers in the U.S. and across Canada
for collision repair, the production of vehicles and vehicle components, trains, buses
and diversified industrial products.
“This is a special milestone in Axalta Canada’s history. We are proud to be cel-
ebrating our 60th year in Ajax and our 150th year in business,” said Brent Jamieson,
Axalta Canada Country manager. “We are extremely proud to call Ajax and the Re-
gion of Durham home. We look forward to the next 60 years of being a part of this
vibrant community.”
“The town is extremely pleased of the accomplishments of the Axalta team and
proud to have them in Ajax for over 60 years,” said Joanne Dies, Councillor, Ward
3 – Town of Ajax. “We look forward to ongoing partnerships in recognition of Axalta’s
strong contribution to the community.”
Axalta strives to give back to the communities in which its employees work and
live. In 2015, Axalta partnered with the Region of Durham to help promote and attract
business investments and form partnerships. Axalta hosted visiting business leaders
who were in town for the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games last summer. Axalta re-
painted and proudly displayed a 15-foot tall Pan Am Games logo on its water reser-
voir which was clearly visible from Canada’s busiest highway.
