To complete the yellow shade space in its Benzimidazolone-based pig- ment offering, Cappelle Pigments
launched Lysopac Yellow 9410C. This
PY194 is a green shade yellow with excellent hiding ability and high color strength,
according to the company.
Lysopac Yellow 9410C is a greenish
yellow which closes the color space gap
between Lysopac 5110C (PY151) and
Lysopac Yellow 5410C (PY154). Due to
the much better performance in hiding
power, color strength and clean shade
than current available products of this
C.I. No., this grade enables a lower cost
formula in its final application.
The excellent light and weather fastness properties provides that the Lysopac
9410C can be used in a wide range of industrial coating applications like powder
coatings, water and solvent based paints
as well as in isocyanate cured systems and
amine cured epoxies.
Ross Introduces New Batch
High Shear Mixers
Ross has introduced the new Batch High
Shear Mixer, which the company describes as an essential tool for general
purpose mixing, powder wet-out, deag-glomeration, dispersion, emulsification
and homogenization. It features a four-blade rotor running within a close tolerance stator at variable tip speeds up to
3,000-4,000 ft/min. As the rotor continuously draws product components and
expels them through the stator openings, the batch is subjected to high levels of mechanical and hydraulic shear.
Interchangeable stators with different
size openings provide added flexibility
to adapt to a variety of applications and
shear requirements.
The Ross Model HSM-130 is driven
by a 30HP motor and supplied with an
air/oil hydraulic lift for easy positioning
and access to the mixing head. The lift
also allows users to conveniently utilize
multiple tanks and accommodate a range
of batch sizes. If preferred, the shaft
length can be customized as well.
An adjustable downthrust propel-
ler enhances circulation and eliminates
floating solids. A modified rotor/stator
assembly capable of sub-surface powder
injection is offered for processing diffi-
cult-to-disperse powders that tend to dust
or form tough agglomerates upon contact
with liquid. This option, called the Solids/
Liquid Injection Manifold (SLIM), is also
available on Ross High Shear Mixers de-
signed for inline/continuous operation.
Standard and sanitary models range
from 3/4 to 100 HP, in both atmospheric
and vacuum/pressure designs.
New Dow Emulsion
Technology Offers Shear
Stability in Flat to Semi-
Gloss Paints
Dow Coating Materials has introduced
new ROVACE 10 Vinyl Acrylic Binder.
Developed with both the formulator and
contractor in mind, this new low-volatile
organic compound (VOC) technology for
flat to semi-gloss interior paints offers excellent manufacturing capabilities.
For formulators, the flexibility of
ROVACE 10 Emulsion helps reduce the
number of considerations factored into
a paint formulation to help meet different quality points across paint lines, the
company stated. For example, ROVACE
10 Emulsion may be added during the
grind stage without any adverse effects
on property performance.
The flexibility of ROVACE 10
Emulsion also offers excellent processing
capabilities for easy pumping and handling. For paint contractors, ROVACE
10 Emulsion offers good spray application and touch-up in starting point formulations. Demonstrating exceptional
color acceptance, ROVACE 10 Emulsion
also helps paint retailers and applicators
match color chips and maintain uniform
color appearance under various conditions of paint age and shear stability.
Birla Carbon Offers Raven
1185 Easy Dispersing High
Jetness Carbon Black
Birla Carbon has introduced Raven 1185,
a surface modified carbon black featuring
high jetness and easy dispersion for use in
industrial and architectural coatings and
premium quality inks. Raven 1185 is
also recommended for food contact and
skin contact applications. Raven 1185
is designed with high structure to aid in
faster, more complete dispersion while its
surface modification provides the desired
viscosity and dispersion stability. Good
carbon black dispersion and dispersion
stability is very important in achieving
the target end use properties in coatings
and inks.
CMC Expands Processing
Capabilties
Custom Milling and Consulting, Inc. is increasing its processing capabilities. CMC
has added a new 36,000 sq. ft. building
to their facilities, 12,000 sq. ft. of the that
space has been dedicated for increasing
wet milling production. Work is progressing on the processing area which includes;
a new dust collection system, electrical
stations with enough capacity to operate up to 1,000 total HP of equipment,
and 300 square feet of refrigerated storage. An indoor tank farm will be outfitted
with new tanks for large volume production; an automated filling station will be
installed to improve batch accuracy, and
a 90 ton chiller for products that require
precise temperature control.
Several new horizontal media mills
and process tanks up to 1,500 gallons
will allow CMC to manufacture dispersions for a wide range of industries. There
will be several high volume stations with
CMC horizontal media mills that will
be able to achieve sub-micron particle
sizes. All the upgrades of the new equipment will allow processing capacity up to
5,000 lbs. per hour and over 100,000 lbs.
per day. CW
