Technical Workshops
To provide opportunities for training and learning for industry
professionals, two Technical Workshops will be held concurrently with the main exhibition November 30-December 1. The
Workshops will be delivered in an interactive style and there will
be opportunities for delegates to discuss their technical problems with the tutor.
• Workshop 1: “Advances in Smart & Functional Polymers
& Coatings,” will be held Wednesday, November 30 at
1: 30 pm at the Meeting Room in Canton Fair Complex
and will be lead by Dr. Jamil Baghdachi, a Professor of
Polymers and Coatings at the Eastern Michigan University.
He joined the University after spending 25 years at various
technical and managerial capacities at BASF Corporation,
DuPont, and ARCO Chemical Company. He is the au-thor/editor of eight technical books and is the recipient
of 2015 American Chemical Society’s Award in Coatings
and Industry Excellence Award of the American Coatings
Association. He has given over 100 keynote lectures and is
an active industry consultant with over 100 clients globally.
• Workshop II: “Principal of High Quality Coatings & Inks
– Relevance to Smart/Nano-Technologies,” will be held
Thursday, December 1 at 1: 30 pm at the Meeting Room
in Canton Fair Complex and will be led by Prof. Long Lin,
currently the Professor of Colour and Polymer Science
and the Head of Department of Colour Science at The
University of Leeds, UK, the world-leading institute in colorants, printing and coating science and technology. He is
also the Director of DP Centre of Industrial Collaboration,
and the Director of Colour and Textile Science centre at
Leeds. Prof. Lin is a Chartered Chemist. He is a Fellow
of the Technology of Surface Coatings, a Fellow of the
Institute of Paper, Printing and Publishing and a Fellow
of the Royal Society of Chemistry. He has acted as a key
consultant to several colorants, printing inks and coatings
related companies for over 25 years. Prof. Lin’s research expertise covers coatings and inks formulations, coating and
printing processes, organic dyes and pigments, specialty
dyes and pigments, security printing, functional coatings
and inks, polymeric binders, statistical experimental design
and data analysis, computer-aided process modelling and
computer-aided formulation optimization. CW
