WACKER has launched a new dispersion in Asia-Pacific that is ideal for formulating high-performance interior paints with reduced
emissions. Vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymers (VAE)-based VINNAPAS EP 3360
ULS offers high opacity, binding power
and stain resistance, even without coalescing aids. It is highly scrub resistant
and displays an excellent response to
thickening agents.
Moreover, it is manufactured without the use of alkylphenol ethoxylates
(APEO), and its VAE basis makes supplementary plasticizers unnecessary. As a result, the new VINNAPAS EP 3360 ULS
dispersion enables the formulation of
low-odor and very-low-emission interior
coatings with excellent performance and
cost-in-use benefits.
VINNAPAS EP 3360 ULS, a vinyl
acetate and ethylene-based dispersion,
is a novel binder for flat to eggshell
interior paints and plasters of low environmental impact. The product offers very high scrub resistance and
a better hiding power than standard
acrylic systems at the same PVC (
pigment volume concentration) level. The
VAE dispersion also delivers high stain
resistance and good washability, which
means that the resulting paint film is
easier to clean, without impairing the
appearance of the paint. Additionally,
it displays good color acceptance and
color consistency, even with difficult-to-formulate pigments.
The dispersion’s good workability and
ease of application mean that rooms can
be used again very quickly, minimizing the
down-time of a building. The binder’s excellent scrub resistance not only increases
performance, but also cuts costs since
binder usage can be reduced by raising
the PVC level proportionally. Moreover,
the product’s high solids content of 60
percent enhances supply chain efficiency
by de-creasing delivery frequency and the
amount of silo space needed.
Specifically developed to meet requirements in the region Asia-Pacific,
the dispersion enables the formulation
of low-odor paints that have a very low
VOC (volatile organic compounds) content (< 1 g/l). The product has a very low
residual monomer content (< 200 ppm)
and does not need organic solvents or coalescing agents to achieve optimum film
formation. Furthermore, it is produced
without the use of APEOs and features
very low formaldehyde (< 20 ppm). Its
odor pro-file is noticeably more subdued,
especially compared with standard styrene acrylic or vinyl-acrylic technology.
As VINNAPAS EP 3360 ULS complies
with major international eco-labels, it
is particularly suitable for places where
low-emission paints are essential, including children’s rooms, hotels and public
buildings, such as hospitals and schools.
Everlight Chemical Offers
Effective Stabilization for
Hybrid Polymer Sealants
Hybrid polymer, especially Silyl-modified
polyether (known as STPE polymers) and
silyl-modified polyurethanes (known as
SPUR polymers) are the modern hybrid
sealants (SMP) which can be used in a
wide ranges of applications, such as construction and transportations. Combining
the strength of polyether and polyurethanes with the weathering resistance of
silicones make these hybrid sealant high
performance. But these hybrid sealants
also show some disadvantages, for examples: yellowing, chalking, cracking, after
exposing under sunlight in outdoors or
high temperature conditions after several
months. Everlight Chemical Industrial
Corp. has a solution to improve the
weatherability of SMP sealants by adding Eversorb. HP1. Eversorb HP1 can be
used to reduce polymer degradation such
as yellowing, cracking, losing mechanical
and elastic properties.
According to the company, Eversorb
HP1 is a high performance UV stabilizer
providing long-term UV protection for
STPE polymers, especially those high per-
formance sealants for construction, auto-
motive and other outdoor applications.
Unlike other powder additives, its liquid
form can homogeniously incoperate in
resin system which mean you won’t need
any heat up process for incoperation and
hardly concern the migration issue.
X-Rite Announces New
Paint Color Matching
Software for Retailers
X-Rite Incorporated, a provider of color
science and technology, and its subsidiary Pantone LLC, has announced the
newest version of its industry leading
retail paint color matching software,
ColorDesigner PLUS version 3.0. Paint
departments in large retail brands and
independent paint and hardware retailers use ColorDesigner PLUS in conjunction with an X-Rite MatchRite iVue
non-contact spectrophotometer or an
X-Rite Ci61 handheld instrument to
make paint selection and mixing simple,
fast, and accurate. The latest updates to
ColorDesigner PLUS 3.0 provide improved Color Lookup, support for all
color dispensing systems and automatic
system updates.
ColorDesigner PLUS 3.0 includes:
•Direct management and control
of dispensers allowing paint de-
partments to manage both color
matching and dispensing from one
system. By seamlessly connecting
to all color dispensing systems,
ColorDesigner PLUS 3.0 eliminates
the need for a second computer or
application, saves time, and opti-
mizes counter space.
• Improved Color Lookup to help
paint associates quickly search the color
collections of both the store and competitive brands to more accurately find paint
colors requested by customers. This expanded selection reduces rework and improves customer satisfaction. CW
