PPG Completes First
Colorful Communities
Charitable-Giving Project in
Asia
PPG Industries announced the completion of its first Colorful Communities
charitable-giving project in Asia, with
the restoration of a mural at a child-care center in Busan, South Korea. The
Colorful Communities program, which
the company launched in May, incorporates PPG employee volunteers, products
and charitable giving to bring color and
vitality to communities where the company operates around the world. The
program expands PPG’s investment in its
communities by committing an additional $10 million over 10 years in Colorful
Communities Projects.
The Busan project brought together
about 100 volunteers – employees of
PPG’s local manufacturing facility and
their family members – to restore a mu-
ral at a local cooperative child-care cen-
ter using PPG paint products. In addition
to creating a more positive and pleasant
environment for those who use the facil-
ity through this effort, PPG also awarded
a $20,000 Colorful Communities grant
to the Saha-gu social welfare center, an
organization dedicated to promoting the
well-being of citizens in the “Gamchun”
cultural community in South Korea.
The community is known for the murals
painted in its alleys.
“We are very pleased to add some
color and excitement to show our com-
mitment to the communities where we
operate,” said James Do, president, PPG
Korea, during a recognition ceremony.
“PPG is committed to continuing its ef-
forts to engage and assist the community
around the Busan facility.”
PPG’s Colorful Communities ini-
tiative aims to enhance, protect and
beautify the neighborhoods where the
company operates around the world.
Together with community partners and
PPG employee volunteers, the program
supports projects that transform com-
munity assets. PPG has completed its
first two Colorful Communities projects:
a school makeover near its global head-
quarters in Pittsburgh, and a children’s
hospital revitalization near several PPG
manufacturing facilities in Italy. The
company expects to complete more than
14 Colorful Communities projects this
year in North America, South America,
Europe and Asia.
“We are excited that we successfully
completed our first Colorful Communities
project in Asia,” said PPG Corporate
Global Social Responsibility executive di-
rector Sue Sloan. “PPG employees around
the world are looking forward to making
an impact and adding color in communi-
ties where we operate.”
The Colorful Communities program
is PPG’s signature initiative for its com-
munity engagement efforts. In 2014,
PPG and the PPG Industries Foundation
donated more than $5.7 million to
hundreds of community organizations
across 24 countries around the world.
These investments focused on: educa-
tion programs that teach young people
skills needed to succeed in studies and
careers related to science, technology,
engineering and math, such as jobs in
advanced manufacturing; revitalization
programs for buildings and community
spaces; and organizations important to
employees through grant and matching-
funds programs.
PPG Industries and the PPG
Industries Foundation aim to create brighter, more colorful communities where PPG has a presence around
the world. By investing in educational
opportunities, we help grow today’s
skilled workforce and develop tomorrow’s innovators in industries related to
coatings and specialty materials. With
the support of our workforce, financial
contributions and PPG products, we
help revitalize our communities. Plus,
we empower PPG employees to make
an impact for causes that are important
to them by supporting their volunteer
efforts and charitable giving.
