Nippon VirusGuard, a new paint formula to safeguard against Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease
(HFMD) and the H1N1 virus, is now
available for the Malaysian market.
Produced by Nippon Paint Malaysia,
the paint which was developed with
“Silver Ion Technology,” is the first of its
kind to have anti-viral and anti-bacterial
coating to inhibit the growth of viruses
and bacteria on painted surfaces.
“Nippon VirusGuard can help mitigate
the spread of contagious diseases such as
HFMD and H1N1. The revolutionary
water-based hygiene paint prevents the
growth of micro-organisms using a controlled ion-release system, besides featuring low odor with low volatile organic
compounds (VOC),” said Nippon Paint,
group managing director, Yaw Seng Heng.
Yaw said Nippon Paint is also working with relevant parties to come up with
an anti-mosquito wall paint to combat
dengue, a growing problem worldwide.
PPG Adds Custom Midcoat
to Vibrance Collection
PPG Industries’ automotive refinish business has introduced VWM500
Custom Midcoat, a solventborne, VOC-compliant Vibrance Collection product
formulated exclusively for application
with waterborne basecoats. VWM500 allows painters to use Vibrance Collection
special-effect pigments and dyes to create
multiple color layers – including custom
candies, micas or pearl midcoat layer –
over waterborne basecoats. VWM500 is
particularly effective when the custom
finish may be performed over an extended period of time; it also can be used to
isolate graphics.
“VWM500 gives painters new free-
dom to create show-stopping, head-
turning finishes,” said Steve Lehner,
PPG product manager. “With VWM500,
painters can take advantage of the array
of Vibrance Collection offerings and al-
low their imaginations to really take off
with bold colors and dazzling effects.
And they can use it with waterborne
products including Envirobase High
Performance basecoat. We’re very ex-
cited to see what PPG customers do with
this new midcoat.”
Lehner added that VWM500 is fast-drying, easy to apply and indispensable for
having full-range, VOC-compliant capability when developing custom finishes. In due
course, VWM500 will replace VWM5555
in VWB Vibrance Collection formulas.
As matches are completed, VWM500-
compatible formulas will be released.
Axalta Launches Two New
Ganicin Zinc-Rich Primers
for General Industrial
Markets
To help provide maximum corrosion
protection for steel surfaces in harsh industrial environments, Axalta Coating
Systems has introduced two new Ganicin
organic zinc-rich primers: Ganicin 2.8
MC-U moisture-cured zinc-rich polyurethane primer and Ganicin 2.8 ZR-E zinc-rich epoxy primer.
Ganicin 2.8 MC-U is formulated with
Axalta’s polyurethane technology to deliver outstanding corrosion resistance for
steel surfaces, especially when used with
Axalta’s Corlar or Imron polyurethane
primers. This 2.8 lbs/gallon volatile organic compounds (VOC) primer is intended for use on carbon steel substrates.
Developed with Axalta’s epoxy amine
technology, Ganicin 2.8 ZR-E is a 2.8 lbs/
gallon VOC zinc-rich organic epoxy primer.
It is formulated to be a high performance
primer with excellent adhesion and outstanding solvent and chemical resistance.
Ganicin coatings are Axalta’s newest
industrial primer product line that includes zinc-rich polyurethane, epoxy and
moisture-cured primers which conform
to SSPC- 20 Class 1 definitions for zinc-rich products containing 85 percent zinc
in the dry film. They are formulated to be
highly corrosion-resistant.
The Ganicin brand of products was
introduced earlier this year with a zinc-rich polyurethane, Ganicin ZR-U.
Sherwin-Williams Introduces
Kynar Resin-Based KEM
AQUAFluor 5001 and 5002
for Vinyl Windows
Sherwin-Williams has announced that
vinyl window OEMs, extruders and job
shops that apply finishes now can deliver
excellent weatherability and reduce excessive heat buildup across all colors with
a new formulation. The company introduces KEM AQUAFluor 5001 and 5002,
premium waterborne coatings formulated with Kynar Aquatec polyvinylidene
fluoride (PVDF) resin.
Vinyl window profiles are a growing
market in both new construction and
remodeling. According to the company,
in the residential segment, customers
are seeking to express themselves in
their homes’ exteriors with non-white
colors and finishes. Homeowners and
commercial window customers value
the energy efficient and cost effective
properties of vinyl.
KEM AQUAFluor 5001 is a single-component, waterborne product. The
KEM AQUAFluor 5002 product requires mixing of two components. It
provides additional scratch and mar
resistance to withstand the rigors of
cutting, punching and machining window extrusions (lineals) after finishing.
This reduces the potential for damage
during shipment and installation. Both
products are formulated with solar reflective technology designed to reduce
heat buildup in dark colors.
Other key benefits of the Kynar
Aquatec PVDF resin include inherent
mold and mildew resistance, as well as
enhanced resistance to rain, chemicals,
dirt pick-up and detergents. Both products can be applied direct to substrate
using conventional, airless, air-assisted or
HVLP spray equipment. CW
