The Fondazione Augusto
Rancilio, which is focused on
architecture, design, urban planning, and
artistic and historical protection and promotion, served as a project partner. The
foundation is working to restore and
develop the villa, which is considered an
Italian imagining of Louis XIV’s palace
at Versailles in France. The villa’s present
structure was completed by the Arconati
family in the 18th century and is an expression of the attention to detail and
elegance of the Lombard baroque style.
The villa, which is part of Italy’s artistic heritage, is visited by more than
40,000 people each season. The Colorful
Communities project will help the
Fondazione Augusto Rancilio expand
community access to the site through cultural, educational and private events.
“PPG is honored to help the
Fondazione Augusto Rancilio in its mis-
sion to restore and beautify the Villa
Arconati to its original state and splen-
dor,” said Silla Giusti, PPG marketing
director, automotive refinish. “Our vol-
unteers did an extraordinary job restor-
ing this important community asset, and
it was impressive to see their enthusiasm
and engagement.”
Added Alessandro Borzino, manager
director, PPG Univer, “The collaboration
between the two PPG sites and businesses
is an excellent example of how we are
working together through the Colorful
Communities program to revitalize com-
munity jewels around the world.”
Cloverdale Paint Opens
New Research &
Development Facility in
Surrey, BC
Cloverdale Paint Inc, Canada’s largest
Canadian owned and operated paint and
coatings manufacturer has announced the
opening of a new Coatings Research &
Development Laboratory in Surrey, B.C.
The new research facility is charged
with the development of new liquid coat-
ing technologies for the company. Its main
emphasis will be in waterborne and low
Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) tech-
nologies. The 7,200 square foot addition
to the existing solvent-based and OEM
product development laboratory will
provide the necessary space for research
chemists to conduct development work.
Cloverdale Paint’s state-of-the-art,
environmentally-friendly facility, significantly increases the size and capabilities
of the existing laboratory. The new space
includes a unique application laboratory
in which chemists, sales and marketing
staff, along with customers, can experience and provide feedback on existing
and new coatings technologies.
This new space provides a safe environment and well-designed work
stations, along with separate raw material storage areas and a scale-up mixing
room. The new expansion also allows
for improved office space and meeting
room capabilities.
PPG Paints Announces
Three Product
Enhancements
The PPG PAINTS brand has announced
three new product enhancements that
will help painting professionals get the
job done right and, ultimately, enhance
their customers’ experiences.
“With greater durability and overall
performance qualities, these reformu-
lated PPG Paints products outperform
competitive products in many areas and
demonstrate clear, improved benefits
as shown through extensive laboratory
testing,” said Jennifer Burroughs, PPG
senior product marketing manager.
“The enhancements address common
job-site concerns from professionals,
such as dirt resistance and flash rust
resistance, to ensure better application
experiences for them, and exceptional
results for their customers.”
The new PPG Paints product formula-
tions include:
•PPG Paints PERMA-CRETE PITT-
FLEX elastomeric coating offers a 100
percent acrylic formula that touts ex-
ceptional dirt resistance, as well as a
flexible bond to prevent hairline cracks
and protect against water infiltration to
achieve uniform, pinhole-free jobs. To
help keep pros’ jobs moving and save
time, the reformulated product can be
applied to concrete that is more than
seven days old and with a pH level of
less than 13. It can also be applied and
performs in temperatures as low as mi-
nus 35 F, a significant enhancement.
•PPG Paints SPEEDHIDE PRO-EV
ZERO coating is ideal for professionals who require high performance at an
affordable price. The Speedhide Pro-EV
Zero formula provides excellent hide
and coverage, adhesion, uniformity, and
broad color-matching capabilities, now
with a zero-VOC (volatile organic compound) formula* (*colorants added to
this base paint may increase VOC level
significantly depending on color choice).
The product enables seamless repairs,
with touch-ups easily blending in to the
original coating for less sheen variation.
• PPG Paints SUN-PROOF exterior latex
house & trim paint has been a trusted
product in the PPG portfolio since
1900, offering outstanding adhesion
to even the most difficult substrates.
Sun-proof exterior paint resists cracking, peeling and flaking, even after exposure to demanding weather elements.
Sun-proof paint is formulated to deliver
outstanding dirt-resistance properties,
making it easy to rinse away surface
dirt and grime with soap and water.
Additionally, the product’s flash rust
resistance ensures that rust from items
such as nail heads won’t bleed through
the surface. VOC levels of Sun-proof
paint are less than 50 grams per liter,
making the product VOC-compliant in
all regulated areas.
“As a global leader in coatings innovation, PPG is committed to continually
evaluating and updating our products
to better meet our customers’ needs,”
Burroughs said.
