Light-duty lifting: Thern Inc. is launching
its Silver Line of winches. The new line
includes an imported stainless steel
TSSBW Series hand winch, formerly referred
to as the Titan Series. Available in three models offering
lifting load capacities of 600, 900, and 1,300 pounds, the new
TSSBW Series hand winch is fabricated of 304 grade stainless steel and features
solid steel machine cut gears, gear covers, and automatic brakes. TSSBW Series hand
winches are designed for light-duty applications requiring corrosion resistance. These
winches are suited for lifting materials, positioning conveyors, or pulling material
carts. (Thern Inc., www.thern.com)
Measures up: Quantronix Inc. unveils its CubiScan 200-TS, an in-motion conveyorized cubing and weighing system. Built in collaboration with Teraoka Seiko in
Japan, this fully integrated dimensioning and weighing system can handle packages
measuring up to 60 inches long, 48 inches wide, and 36 inches high and weighing
up to 110 pounds.
With an operating speed of 230 feet per minute, the 200-TS is designed for high-volume warehousing, freight manifesting, and transportation applications that
require collection of accurate cube and weight data.
The CubiScan 200-TS comes standard with a color active-matrix display that provides a wealth of operating statistics and diagnostic information while featuring convenient touch-screen controls. With customized software programming, it can easily
interface to and be synchronized with bar-code scanning equipment; label printing
devices; and shipping/manifesting, invoicing, and warehouse management system
software. (Quantronix, www.cubiscan.com)
Power to the max: SenDEC, a manufacturer of digital monitoring and control devices, has introduced
two new versions of its Dual Gauge battery meter.
Both versions are variations on the company’s battery discharge indicator and hour meter dual gauge
for industrial battery monitoring. The new meter is
designed to prevent deep battery discharge and
improve battery life by preventing the battery from
dropping below a specified state of charge.
Both the Lockout and the Lift Lockout versions
prevent the operator from continuing to use the
equipment once the battery reaches an OEM-specified state of charge. The Lockout gauge,
which is designed specifically with material handling equipment in mind, uses an internal relay to
shut down the battery when it reaches discharge
level. The Lift Lockout version will allow a lift truck
(or other lift equipment) to cycle down to the
bottom of its range before lock out of the battery.
This allows personnel and materials to return to
ground level safely before the equipment is shut
down for charging. (SenDEC, www.sendec.com)

Port of call: Global shipping line APL is now routing its Central America service through the Port of
Miami. APL has moved the Central America
Express (CAX) and its companion service—the
CX2—from Port Everglades to Miami. The Florida
city is now the only U.S. port of call for the service that connects Honduras, Guatemala,
Nicaragua, and El Salvador with APL’s major
European and Latin American trade routes.
The twice-weekly CAX is one of three APL
services reaching Central America. By routing
through Miami, shippers on the CAX can connect
to APL’s Atlantic Pacific Express and Atlantic
North service for shipments to and from Europe.
They can also use Miami to link up with APL’s
New York Express for other major ports of call in
Latin America as well as Asia.
In addition, the switch in ports will enable shippers to benefit from increased cargo-handling efficiency. Miami recently opened an automated 16-
lane gate to speed up traffic at the port. Turn times
at the port—the amount of time it takes a trucker
to deliver one container and pick up another—have
averaged just 30 minutes. (APL, www.apl.com)
